Werribee v Coburg

Sorry I didn't watch it much, I'm playing soccer this year and probably won't get to as many games. From TV only saw from mid 3rd quarter, 32 point win. Quick assessment. McGuiness looked good running ball through centre, Skipper chf, Fawkner flashy Croft off in last quarter Rest??? Will watch 1st half now from tape.

Faulkner was impressive from what I saw [bits and pieces] - great poise and pace in two goal [+?] and set another up. McGunness looked good but seemed to be receiving the ball mostly rather than winning contests. Setchell given BOG by commentators and Mitchell 6 goals. Skipper got a good rap.

Tim Walsh got into the play well - liked the way he snuck into the goalsquare to get a handball over the top when Jack marked about 15 out! Daniel Cross looks a bit stronger and compeeting well.

Skipper impressed me, while Faulkner is very impressive.
Former Hawk, Bill Nicholls kicked a couple for Coburg which wsa good to see.

Mitchell is a terrific VFL stalward.

Just about all of the Dogs listed players played well.

Skip was excellent, so was Daniel Cross although his kicking let him down.

Brad Murphy and Matthew Boyd both got plenty of it and Crofty was solid as always. Cam Faulkner has very quick hands but doesn't get many possessions (yet).

Keiran McGuinness played mostly half-back and went alright.

Nick Bruton won practically every hitout he went for and he doesn't seem as ackward as I've seen him before. He still got pushed around by Steinfort at the boundary throw-ins.

Tim Walsh, Brent Colbert and Cam Wight also played.

Will Minson and Marcus Picken didn't play.

I missed 10 minutes of the 2nd 1/4 and found out Faulkner kicked two goals while I was gone.

3 for the day sounds a lot better than 1.

My Bulldog player analysis:

Faulkner - great draft pick up, 3 goals, fits into this level easily, not just a receiver but also hard at the ball. With certainly get a senior game before end of year

Walsh - getting better, good skills. Still very young. Like the look of him.

Murphy - good first half, very slight, looks promising.

Croft - still another week way from seniors, fumbled a bit but a required senior player when match fit.

Skipper - some nice marks, player chf along side Walsh and work well together. His second efforts outstanding as always. Seniors soon.

Burton - thought he did well. The only thing that lets him down is his strength. Gets pushed around too much. How long can we wait for him to put some muscle/weight on?

Colbert - only saw in second half. Good sized winger, needs more time.

Boyd - impresses me each time I see him. Definitive promotion if we cop another long term injury.

Cross - getting better as well. Kicking a worry. Works hard and gets results in midfield.

McGuiness - great second half. Hard running off Hb ala 2002 Pies game, provided forwards with plenty of opportunity

Wight - very skinny, but has height and skills. Development year.

The few things I saw Colbert do (only watched bits and pieces) were very good.Cross worked his arse off again and I reckon he might be a chance to play seniors this season.Very good hands in close IMO.Walsh looked pretty good from the parts I saw.Kicking wasn't fantastic but he plucked a nice mark that I saw.Bruton destroyed them in the taps but had little influence around the ground.Saw him basically watch the ball roll past him at one stage. If he can get that part of his game right then we will have a player.

Worrying part is Croft didn't play the last quarter. Don't think 3 quarters of football when most other have had 2 months of games is enough.

Colbert definetively improved, when last year wasn't getting a game.
Agree about Burton, would be a star if he could match other guys muscle, take 6-7 marks and win more boundary throw ins.

Cameron Faulkner doesn't need to get a lot of the ball to hurt you. Ten possies and 3 goals in a game is a good return.
I would play him sooner rather than later. If I were Garlick and Eagleton I would be looking over my shoulder.

Tim Walsh can take an overhead mark.

Boyd,Cross,McGuinness stand out at VFL level.

Colbert is improving every time I see him.

Skipper should play this week. (In the ones)

I agree with that. Colby has got so much better this year. I think hes still got a while to go before he gets a game with the doggies, but yeah hes a lot better than he was last year.

If Croft got through fit, he's a definite in - rusty or not.

Skipper looked good. But I've only seen him play forward. If we want him as a CHB then he should be playing there for Werribee. If we want him to be CHF, then where do we play Bandy?

Faulkner - he looked very good. Very quick hands inside and silky outside. Definite shades of McLeod and Winmar in some of his play. I wouldn't hold him back. Definitely sooner rather than later.

McGuinness did a bit in the 2nd half. But I didn't think he did enough to get back.

Cross - yep still ordinary disposal sometimes but he works very hard and gets the ball well. He's banging on the door for a chance.

Murphy impressed me as he gets in the play alot. But he'd be late in the year at best I think.

Walsh looked promising at times but I wouldn't expect him to play this year.

Bruton - needs strength and needs it quickly. I can't see him getting a chance this year (and don't think he'll get another year).

Boyd - looks good at this level but so do all our smalls. There's at least 4 guys not playing at the moment that are ahead of him - Birss, Gilbee, Cross and Faulkner. He needs to absolutely star before he'd get off the rookie list this year.

I read somewhere he got a knock on the head and was a bit groggy after that. He looked in good form to me. Hopefully he is fit otherwise.

also got to see it on tv - a few quick observations

Faulkner - why hold him back?

Skipper - certainly deserves a go in the seniors. we could use his strong marking and presence. my concern is that he wouldn't be able to run out a full game at this stage.

Tim Walsh - needs to work on his kicking a bit but will be a super player.

B.Murphy - like the look of him skillwise. looks like we has a few tools in the kit. Should improve a lot as the season goes on if he stays injury free.

Cross - agree with those who say he plays above this level. Has the makings of a competent senior player in time.

Bruton - a good game but I think he'd struggle at senior level. Reads play well enough just a question of his strength. At least he had a good dip and given an injury free run may develop. Not sure if we have the time tho' to wait for him.

Colbert - liked the way he played. should be in line for a game before seasons end and add some depth to our half back stocks.

But would you expect skip to do it for the first few games. I wouldnt. He needs a few games at senior lever to show people how far he has come, and maybe show how far he still has to go. But i think they should play him now so everyone knows what he has.

Agree swap for Garlick

The way we seem to play our new guys is off the bench so running the game out is probably not a prob
Just love the effort he gives for such a big guy. Never gives up and the way he won a Werribee final last year showed this.

He is beginning to remind me of Paul Dooley! Think we have to wait to see how Cam Wight develops before we can decide whether to persist with him or let him go.
