Although I strongly believe in free speech, the Priddis thread is OTT..300 pages bagging one of our own. It really bothers me that his family and friends read that stuff and that he knows it too..yea of course he does. I reckon it's an embarrassment to the Eagles board and very off putting to potential new posters who might wander in here and read that thread which really showcases the worst side of footy supporters, sniping a player but also sniping each other..and slowly just back out again ala Homer in the bushes style. So my suggestion is to bloody get rid of it already, sure let posters discuss his performance after the games just like any other player in the game day threads..but to target him like that over so many pages and over such a long time is worse than unAustralian..its unEagleish!

Besides that this board is pretty cool and laid back, team boards should not be stuck up and elitist, but friendly and welcoming to new Eagle users and encourage them to post even if they are a bit shy at first..theres enough nasty shit going on in the world already, and after all footy teams are families and you don't get to pick and choose family..you love em and help them fit in. Leave the scummy lowbrow shitfights for the purple hillbillies over in cockburn.

People take the criticism of a player so personally. I agree that inflammatory statements about the player himself should be removed from the discussion rather than have 20 pages of "you shouldn't say that about one of our players". But that is for the offended party to report the post, instead of going back for more.

Not sure about all of this embarrassment stuff about the thread on BigFooty. Like there is a cool rep to maintain. We are a Booooooing, ungrateful, unkowledgeable supporter group...whats to maintain?
But seriously things haven't gone well for us for a few years now and if you look at the clubs who are in the same boat they have megathreads denouncing someone, usually a coach. Collingwood & Carlton just now have Malthouse & Buckely threads...Freo had a Lyon one before they started winning then that thread went quiet. Not sure what the fuss is?

It's unfortunate that some posters continue to spread the same rubbish and attitude to other parts of this board too.

Finding myself more and more drawn to other afl content on the internet which is far more friendly and entertaining.

Most of the negativity and personal attacks in my experience come from pro priddis people.

I try to always maintain respectfulness and politeness.

Perhaps where the mods see personal abuse they could action that.

That way the issue can be discussed and people will know personal attacks will not be accepted.

Deleting the whole thread though - that smacks of censorship - its a polarising issue - to kill the thread is silencing a large group of people who are unhappy with how the club is handling an ongoing situation.

Also theres the containment issue. If its not in there it will live on in every other part of the board.

The board is good, there are many posters here who's posts I enjoy reading. I tend to scroll pretty quickly through a thread and stop to read these peoples posts and skip those who I know are nothing more shit stirrers.

Trolls are given far to much opportunity to thrive, and shit throwing contests have been allowed to go on without any intervention from a mod (any visable intervention). I guess we're all adults but some people need to be whipped every now and then.

Overall this board is pretty good. I generally post in here during my work breaks through out the day, didn't know about bigfooty til late. Ive only got a handful of friends that like footy and a couple that like it that next step so I get a kick out of hearing all the different opinions from the fans whether ridiculous or not. Its a good place to see what everybody thinks about everything eagles, half of those may be troll posts but hey all part of it.

I like it pretty much how it is. I started off as an 'I like Priddis because he tries hard every game' type of supporter, and I'd like to think that now I'm at least a little bit better than that! I find BigFooty a great place to learn about the game, and the WCE boards have a select bunch of people whose posts are always quite interesting to read.

It would be nice for some people to just grow the **** up and finally understand that Priddis and his downfalls don't need to be brought up in every thread they venture into.

Some posters could probably do with a Priddis quota, i.e.: they're only allowed a certain number of posts per month on Priddis. I imagine some posters would have to carefully manage their quota, such is their overwhelming urge to Priddis about Priddis.

I enjoy commenting on here, I love the Eagles and wanted to learn more about the game - thats why I joined up. More than anything I believe you should be able to get onto these forums and comment on things with an open mind. Sometimes I think people need to remember that there is no one person who knows everything, a little humility and patience when you respond to people would go a long way. I remember when I first got onto these boards and instantly appreciated the intellectual debate of possible trades and recruiting, team selection and all other things Eagles. I don't think that we're going backwards or anything like that, maybe we just need to be reminded why we get on this board every now and then.
