Cousins wasn't an 100% "quality citizen" look where that got him.

A brownlow and a premiership.

Both nothing Palmer will ever have, Blue Balls.

Neither was he a smart arse plus he could play and win the hard ball and won the rising star just like Palmer and unlike Masten. Whether he wins a Brownlow remains to be seen but given the way he plays he would have to be a much better chance than Masten.
As for a premiership, if you think Masten is a chance it won't be while he is at WCE.

The rising star means nothing. Its just an opinion, just like the Brownlow - where Masten finished above Palmer

BTW Masten had 9 contested possessions today :)

The fact is that we had Rich as our first pick until fairly late into proceedings and we changed to Naitanui because of the hype surrounding him which I believe was over the top. Rich was the ready made product and has stepped seamlessly into AFL whereas Naitanui is at least two years away and as you say very much a future prospect.
Unlike you I am not as confident that he will be the superstar that a lot of people predict. I guess we shall all have to wait to see what happens.

How do you know that's fact? If my sources at Swans are to be believed it actually changed fairly early in the season, last season. The kid's played 4 games and won 1 game off his own back. There's a fair bit to work with there. My comments on the Eagles board, about accepting that NN is not your stock standard, vanilla type ruckman, is aimed at people like yourself (not in a negative sense so please don't take it that way). People who want him changed into a drop into the spaces, loose man in defense type ruckman is a waste of what he offers IMHO. The last clearance from Naita to Masten, for the goal, was exactly what he offers and what he should be allowed to bring to the table.

On the Rich issue, yes, I'd have loved him in Eagles colours as well, but we couldn't take both, unless he slipped to 18. :D

Masten always had more contested possessions than Palmer at junior level, Masten was the one feeding it out to his mate Palmer, just BB doesn't want to see that. And I'm not knocking Palmer BB, it's just you're off base with your assertions about Masten.

Teds just stirring the pot. Channel 7 reported as soon as the season was over that we would take Naitanui, at least 6-7 weeks before the draft. We always knew who we wanted IMO and the fact we were saying 'we want Rich' was clearly a smokescreen.

Discussions I had with the recruiting staff at last years U18's Championships clearly indicated that Rich was our priority and I firmly believed that given the many years I have known them. I agree with you that he is not the normal type of ruckman but I have reservations that he is a ruckman at all. Undoubtedly he possesses the leap required but at this point in time that's all he has, he may well develop into one but don't hold your breath waiting. He might have done well in that role at Swans but the AFL is a different matter altogether. The lad clearly has athletic ability and potential to burn but he is so far off it in terms of general football smarts that it may well take another two years before he becomes a force to be reckoned with.
With the game continually changing and getting even quicker he could with his pace, dexterity and strength develop into some new kind of super midfielder with the ability to play equally well at either end of the ground.
Your comment re Rich is correct however, I believe that we could've and should've traded Kerr for a pick that would've enabled us to have a chance of getting him and with the benefit of hindsight it would have worked.

And you believe what Ch7 reports? I suppose you also believe in fairies!

So the Rising Star and the Brownlow mean nothing eh? Try telling that to those who have been good enough to win one not to mention anyone who follows the game. A stupid stupid statement even for you.

9 contested possessions for Masten? About time he started to show something on the other hand just a normal stat for Palmer.

I never said the brownlow means nothing, you lack reading ability. No surprise there :)

If you're referring to the 'stuff up' of masten over palmer then I consider it to be the greatest stuff up of all time! quite happy with masten :)

Palmer goes alright, too.

Anyway, let's get this thread back on topic... what do people think about possibly trading butler back to adelaide for a west aussie? Surjan comes to mind.

Don't try making excuses for your poor grammar skills, just accept that you stuffed up.

The stuff up is on your behalf for presuming to know what I meant. The difference is the Brownlow is judged by a number of people who were on the field with the players while the rising star is judged by a bunch of smucks who don't even watch all the games. No wonder you think the rising star award means something. You appear to employee similar methods to judge Masten and Naitanui :)

Palmer rising star, Masten will never be.
Palmer quality citizen, Masten upstart.
Palmer wins the hard ball, Masten doesn't.
It's not how many possessions you get it's how you use them.

BAHAHAHAHAHAH u truly no **** all about footy

Masten got drafted over Palmer because he can get the hard ball alot better then Palmer,

second yes Masten will never be a rising star but either will Judd, Hodge, Goodes, Franklin, Ablett, Bartell.

Quailty citizens aint going to win u a premiership or for freo make a grand final

so is about 9 clangers

Time for this thread to get back on topic. Any further discussion of Palmer vs Masten and/or NicNat vs Hill vs Rich will result in deletions and infractions. How about you actually discuss the players West Coast are likely to draft in 2009?

Thats what happens Vader when your nice to a Freo troll.

You should of carded him (Black Ball) earlier on, and thread wouldn't have gone of topic.
