Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

Eagles board is on fire, no support for this trade whatsoever. One of the worst moves in club history. I hated barrass for 14 and a F2 but would have much rather given that up for owies and Baker (who I didn't want anyway)
Have they mentioned Matty Clarke is a secret agent working for Richmond ?
They should not have him involved in any trades that involve Richmond players ?
Eagles considering offering Richmond pick #12 for Jayden Short ?

Too much under rating of Blair Hartley in these threads
he is looking like a super star getting everything he wants so far with Rioli & Baker looking done

Baker went for Market Value ( Richmond Market )

You did well.

Carlton however have made such a killing - I hear Netflix are thinking of making a mini-series on it.

I think if Eagles end up with pick 3 they should look at the suns picks 6 11 20. Say 3, 59, F3 for 6 11 20.

Trade that pick 20 for Baker and get whatever they can for Barrass from Hawks. Likely first round and a future pick.

Eagles have then 6, 9, 11 to get 3 draftees in the first round. Keeping 3 will not be wise to keep when you can potentially get two top 10 draftees

Tigers are full of 2024 picks. If they start swapping for 2025 picks be afraid.
thats what I am thinking.

pick 1
pick 6 (for dan rioli)
picks 10 and either 11 or 18 (for shai Bolton)
Pick 14 (for liam baker)

I can see the tigers offer up pick 14 for a future 2025 1st rounder.

Hell, I won't be shocked If pick 10 or 11 was offered for a teams 2025 1st and 2nd

A quick calculation shows in last 6 years ie. trying to include COVID years Gold Coast received a extra 138 million dollars than West Coast from the AFL

If the choice is a first round compensation pick or 138 million dollars into the club's coffers give me the 138 million please
what would you do with 138 million in Cash?

I would buy a house in Peppermint grove and another one in Mirrabooka to be honest. lol

You don’t get access to top 5 picks as often as you like.

2022 - trade from 2 (Sheezel) to 8 and 12 (Ginbey and Hewett)
2024 - trade from 3 for 12, Baker and Owies??

Scratching my head
2016: Dockers traded pick 3 for Cam McCarthy, picks 8,32 and 72

If your side can nail picks 12 and 72, I don't think the trade isn't as bad if you nail those 2 picks

Wasn't a successful decision with hindsight
Define "success" .

Pick 8 ended up as Griffin Logue. Pick 32 ended up chosen as Brennan cox or Sean Darcy. But I think it was cox. Pick 72 ended up as Luke Ryan.

I don't care how you spin it. Pick 3 or a top 5 pick to get 3 or 4 solid blokes is a good trade .

Beats using a top 5 pick on a talented kid that ends up having 3 knee recos in a row

WCE should keep Barrass.... added two hard working and hard at it experienced players that will give five years to the list and an elite youngster.

Carlton fans didnt want to see Owies leave - he is a genuine 23 game a season player that will win plenty of tackles inside 50 and kick plenty of goals.

Easy

  • Lower membership prices
  • Category B rookies up the wazoo.
  • Academy investment particulary in the country areas. Find the next Liam Ryan
  • More spending on game day experience. It's truly shambolic
  • Improve MRP facilities which are not up to standard when compared to other clubs

Plenty needs doing really

Most Richmond fans didn’t want to see Baker leave either, and WC fans are unhappy to have them.

The irony here…

They actually need the picks to regenerate the list fast. They'd love barass to go to the saints for a top 10 pick. West Coast need to build a team around reid, they'd have got osullivan, who would have fitted well with reid, now they get a pick in the teens and hope like hell Warner comes next year.

Owies will be solid for 25 goals next year, but he's decision making isn't great. I'm not sure who else they've got to help as small forwards. Look at geelong and hawthorn they have 4 or 5 guys who work together.

They do - but they also need to protect what they already have in their stable.

Barrass should stay and list can also continue to be regenerated with 12 + 26

I remember the Good old Days the AFL actually spent money on grass roots footy up the Northern country parts of WA. The AFL slowly phased that out. Eagles and Dockers have to do that out of their on back pocket.

So far pick #14 for Baker
#6 + #23 for Rioli
#10 + #11 for Bolton

Yes i am having a really Tough off season

How you going are you ok ?

Adrian Dodoro has nothing on your mob.

Richmond have made Dodoro look like Nothing after this trade period.

Only one word describes this: cluster ****.

They could have got 14 for Barrass, used it for Baker (with something later back), kept 3, and got Owies for whatever later pick Richmond gave.

3, Baker, Owies vs 12, Baker, Owies.

If both arent in the Eagles top 5 B and F there would be riots.

3 could still have been turned into 2 picks around the 10 mark too...

We have utterly cooked this trade period. Our trades read like something from the 1990s.

None of Baker, Owies or Graham move the needle. All 3 start next season at 27 years old and Owies turns 28 soon after.

Graham I don't really care about. A UFA who attracted band 4 compo means we didn't offer a big contract and didn't have to trade. We need serviceable players in his age bracket and I can see him filling a role as a defensive mid.

I would take pick 3 over 12 + 14, Owies or otherwise, every day of the week. Owies trade value to WC should have been pick 50+. Baker should heave been worth pick 26 in a trade or let him go to Freo with Bolton or via the draft. That's the reality of where out list is at.

Pick 3 should only have been traded if it was a deal involving 6 and Baker with Richmomd, or at least one top 10 pick from say St Kilda or Melbourne. Entering the draft with picks 12 and 26 after 10 wins in 3 years is a joke. Last year having 1 then 30 was a joke but mostly out of our control.

We are a club that should be selling, not buying.

The narrative that WC can "save" the Baker trade by getting some amazing deal for Tom Barrass is also a joke. Starting with pick 3 and a sought after contracted player worth at least one first round pick in Barrass we should have a strong draft position be it a very early pick or multiple firsts (as we did in 2022).

I hated the Tim Kelly trade at the time and was adamant that we overpaid given the leverage we had and that he wasn't that great (right x 2) but two firsts which are 16 then 18 for a 25 year old All Australian hasn't held the club back the way some people like to make out. Trading out prime draft assets to secure a couple of B and C grade players when you are 16th WTAF.

I'm surprised how poorly managed Eagles are
