No thanks Eddie, North have been worse for longer, ditto Carlton, and we didn't any kind of priority draft picks.

The mess of the Eagles list is of their own making, and they need to tough it out and rebuild like the rest of us, under no circumstances should they get any kind of draft or salary cap assistance.

They are rich and well resourced, they can easily survive another 5 bleak on field seasons (which is what it's looking like)

Eddie has made some howlers in his time for suggestions to improve clubs and the AFL, this may take the proverbial biscuit.

How is the Eagles list mess any different to the mess North and Carlton ended up with? Why is that considered different circumstances?

North received 2 assistance picks last year, a second rounder and a third rounder on the proviso they had to trade them for at least one player. They then traded them to Fremantle for Logue and Tucker.

Because you won a flag 5 years ago, and threw the kitchen sink at another one, which put you in this mess.

No one to blame but yourselves, suck it up.

Not only that, constantly giving out bad/long term contracts to players that are cooked.
They should not be rewarded by such blatant mismanagement.

North threw money at the likes of Higgins, Dal Santo etc to top up for a flag push when they were contending in the mid 2010s (they made a prelim in 2015 and made finals in 2016). That took list spots away from younger players they could have developed.

So again i'm failing to see why they should be given special exemptions? Shouldn't the same rules apply to all?

Five years after a flag? Nope.

Carlton definitely got free access to players that they turned into picks.

So on your example of north you last played finals in 2019. And north got a pick in 2022 after 6 years out of the finals.

So if you stay this bad until the end 2025 then yeah let’s think about it. 👍

Only players from the VFL like Cottrell (the other one is not even on our list anymore)

We got nothing compared to what Gold Coast got.

So only clubs that have everything in order with an act of god making them last should get a priority pick?

Anyone at bottom of table is there because they didn’t get things right. Whatever that may be.

It’s a bit of a circular arguement.

"McGuire said the AFL needed West Coast to remain powerful for the strength of the competition"

??!!!

Well duh. Look I know many people still think it’s VFL but eagles generates more income for afl than most clubs. Tv deals mate. Fox wants people watching. North vs saints doesn’t do it. If wce are switching off, it’s a problem.

Hate to say it, but WCE, as they are, are bad for the comp.

It is not good to have a team get thrashed every week. It makes the draw even more uneven and it lowers tv ratings/attendances when they play. Teams need to have a little hope, which the Eagles dont at the moment. The league is better when there are 18 AFL teams, not 17 and an WAFL team getting thrashed every week.

As with any PP, they need help now and not just another kid. Should be forced to trade it to get someone in.

It was 2020. So they need to wait till end of 2026 for some 2nd & 3rd round picks.

The same people who got you in this mess are still in charge. There needs to be a complete clean out and overhaul before any charity starts.

Has West Coast ever gone a season without a priority pick on their list? Darling & Shuey still carrying that mantle today.

Well yes, priority picks only came into play in 1993 and we didn't take our first one until 2001.

So we went from 1987-2001 without having one on our list
derp

Bonus round, 2008 too in between when Judd left and Shuey was drafted.

Yeah let's turf out equalisation and prop up the big clubs to maintain audiences. Can't believe what I'm reading here.

Priority pick / concessional pick, same thing. You got Jason Ball with one in 1991.

Both Brisbane and us got extra Expansion picks due to the shithouse conditions we got when we entered the comp in 1987. Among that was a smaller list size at start-up compared to the other VFL teams, and not being able to enter the 1986 or 1987 AFL drafts.

Could you imagine the furore if Fremantle wasn't allowed to participate in the 1994 or 1995 drafts when you started?

We got access to the WAFL only, and that was after likes of Buckenarra, Bewick, etc had been raided in the previous seasons.

Eagles made the decision to keep injury prone players like Naitanui on their list, this is a result of their own making.

But I highly doubt the Eagles would even consider asking for a PP.

I can't believe you actually believe that, Eagles put together a State team, give yourself an uppercut

Would have won a flag before 1992 if we had the likes of Buckenarra, Winmar, Bewick and others running around in the blue and gold.
