Awesome news, silly question but will they train at lathlain, seems silly that they wouldn't take advantage of the new facilities.

So, Freo get access to the state's best players before we even enter the comp? And we'll probably have worse draft concessions than them when we finally enter as well.

Better win a flag girls!

Well they have been running an academy lately similar to what west coast did at the start of the year, but all that does is give them a chance to cast an eye over the girls who currently aren’t on a list.
They will still have to decide whether they spend draft picks on these local girls or whether they go with some interstate girls. It’s just funny that it took West Coast creating a girls academy and then a change of Freo head coach before they even thought of doing the same. I think there’s a few that play for a Freo currently that will want to switch when West Coast come into the comp. :)

Top news! The year just gets better!
Just provides great synergy with team 1.
Curious to see how it all settles in....

Be cool if they played a couple of curtain raisers at optus but doubt thatll happen.

Would need some cash incentive for a WAFL club to 'sell' their home game but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible

Yeah especially when the WAFL club in question would've had a bye anyway without the eagles playing in the comp.

They need to be eligible for the finals otherwise it makes a mockery of the competition.

This season finished with East Perth on 8 wins in 5th, Perth and Peel on 7 wins in 6th and 7th. Replace East Perth with WC reserves and Perth are in the finals finishing 6th. Even worse if it comes down to final round matches to determine top 5 positions and we are a key player.

I would probably play 5 games a round on Saturday afternoons as per WAFL tradition and then for every WC reserves home game play at Lathlain on Sunday or as a curtain raiser if that ties in.

The main thing that concerns me is the impact on the other clubs. I'm not old enough to fully appreciate WA footy pre-WC but appreciate the work clubs have done for over 100 years.

Our team needs players and we don't have enough on our AFL list. We will need our current list which means East Perth lose half their best 22 plus a few more. What I don't want to see is good WAFL players jumping ship from Perth, East Freo, whoever to join WC because that increases their chances of being noticed at AFL level. The comp doesn't need another Subiaco. Our recruiting after we are set up needs to have pretty strict guidelines.

There will be teething troubles but there were with the East Perth alignment and there were when we had players spread out across 8 then 4 clubs.

Article confirms West Coast will play away - but would be a waste if they didn't do a few curtain raisers.

More exposure for WAFL, the WAFL opposition club and a chance for WAFL players to play at Optus.

Plus Eagles fans get a chance to see the up and coming players.

Curtain raisers would be a win for everyone.

It's very easy as WC fans on a WC fan board to think about this from a WC perspective but we do need to think about it from the perspective of everyone else.

The WAFL going back to a 9 team team comp and WC/Freo reserves having to play each other and interstate wouldn't be a great result for anyone.

Dear Members and Supporters,

'The West Australian' reported this morning 11/10/18 that the Council of Presidents voted unanimously to support the introduction of a 10th WAFL team into the WAFL from the West Coast Eagles.

In what is a very contentious issue we want to make a few things very clear. At the meeting the WAFL CoP was asked to consider only three things as the details of any recruiting, points and top up players was still to be worked through and would be completed by the end of October. The three items we were asked to consider were:

1: Would we allow a WCE stand alone team into the WAFL?

Considering the enormous benefit our AFL clubs provide to football throughout WA and understanding the need for the WCE to develop their players within a strong competition unanimous conditional support was provided.

2: Would we accept the proposed financial model?

Again due to the significant funding generated by the AFL clubs into football in WA which is appreciated by all, this model was accepted with a review to occur at the conclusion of 2019 to ensure there has been a positive financial impact to the WAFL and WAFL clubs.

3: Would we accept commercialisation of the WCE team?

The Swan Districts Football Club has strong concerns over the long term effect on membership, and general support of WAFL clubs. Currently many WAFL supporters and their children support a WAFL club and an AFL club. To have a branded WCE team in the WAFL will no doubt affect the allegiances of the next generation of football followers which will have a negative impact on the traditional WAFL clubs. The Swan Districts Football Club does not accept that commercialisation of the WCE reserves team serves the purpose intended. A key element of a stand alone WCE team is to develop and nurture their players in a strong competition. Commercialisation does not add anything to this key area.

A vote was taken and the result was 8-1 so no unanimous decision was met.

Considering point 3 directly relates to the conditions supporting point 1 the point 1 is also not unanimous.

The position of the Swan Districts Football Club is that in consideration of the above conditions we do not support the introduction of the WCE as a 10th team in the WAFL.

Basically they only support a stand alone team as long as we don't market or commercialize it in anyway.

Considering its going to cost close to a million a year to run seems a bit much to have to completely absorb the costs with no source of revenue.

So the results were
Q1 - 9/9
Q2 - 9/9
Q3 - 8/9

Yet they don't support a team being in there ??

It will happen. Once the Eagles WAFL games get a crowd fewer than 500 (will happen early once the novelty wears off) other WAFL clubs will be offered a chance to sell the game to the Eagles as a curtain raiser.

WAFL supporters are amongst the most gullible and Swans supporters top that list. They'd be the only team to believe that release.

Give them a cut of gate receipts, food sales and let them sell mechandise there on gameday and boom everyone is happy.
