Exciting times ahead!
The 800k/year fee is sizeable but am happy that it’s going towards the WAFL (rather than competing clubs in the AFL )
This is something our club has wanted /pushed for over the last few years (even prior to the alignment arrangements ) so great news overall

Oops I’m such an idiot haha
Made a thread after missing this one despite searching a few times
I’ll blame my phone haha
But anyway - such exciting times ahead!

This is something our club has wanted /pushed for over the last few years (even prior to the alignment arrangements ) so I am stoked .

I’m looking forward to hearing the details - whether we’re eligible for finals , who’ll coach our team , salary cap /playing list requirements , top-up playing requirements etc

Great news for us and and the rest of the WAFL teams.

Benefits-
  • Not the annoying WAFL byes due to odd numbers of teams
  • I expected a higher licence fee and we have the financial strength for it to not hurt us. My thoughts were that it was potentially a 7 figures off off inducement and I would not have blinked
  • Jobs for senior boys in coaching and development - not sure how it will work with NGA
  • I like the idea of away games
  • Should get better attendances at WAFL games not disliking the team I am interested in watching
  • Chance to build a consistent culture
  • Paved the way for how we get our own AFLW team
  • East Perth will not have the “woe is me excuse”
I will want to see how we keep the balance with supporters maintaining loyalty of their WAFL team and interest in the Eagles.

I would really like the Eagles to arrange the fixtures to play at rural locations and build interest in country games. Doty’s and Claremont have been consistently good with that commitment over a sustained period.

Not sure what it will mean for reserves and colts. Guess that is the next level of detail to be worked out.

Not sure on all the plans but with AFL, AFLW and WAFL teams, Lathlain Park will be busy

In the grand scheme of things, $135,000 isn't much split among 9 clubs. Even so - Subiaco shouldn't be receiving a cut of the entrance costs.
I thought it's a one off fee of $90k to be split between clubs? That's only $10k which isn't really that helpful to any struggling clubs surely

Not really sure how this helps the WAFL

Team needs a jumper. I have an idea.
I know this was a joke, but if I can be serious for one moment.

Another poster in the past (on the FJGD board I think) had mentioned that if we ever get a standalone WAFL team, they should wear a different jumper, with no wings. That way, when a player gets promoted to the seniors, they will have "earned their wings". I like this idea and hope that it gains some traction.

PS. The ochre will do :p

Great news.

I suppose this means an AFL seconds competition is out of the question.

Regarding finals, it would be a bit of a disadvantage to not play finals. These games are handy to keep players fit or get players match fit at the pointy end of the season. Also gives the team a goal rather than each game simply being a training run.

I never had a WAFL side so I might got to a few more games now.
