Agree, i thought the same thing at the time, being on center wing i could see the space and you could tell what Lester was doing, there wasn't a player within 50m out there, all he had to do was put it out in from and let Golby do the rest. Golby wasn't far enough ahead that you could spot him up without danger, where Lester kicked the ball was the most dangerous spot for it to be.That goal by Golby highlights to me what a smart footballer Lester is. He kicked it into the space that Golby could run onto. If he kicked it at Golby it would have held up the flow of play and required Golby to kick over the mark to one of the leading forwards. Because Lester utilised the space in front of Golby, it made the WC player nearest Golby irrelevant which meant Golby could choose to run into the forward 50 or spot up a target if one presented.
When that passage of play onfolded, someone near me blew up at Lester for missing the target. Totally wrong IMO. It was the smart play and the one most likely to lead to an uncontested shot on goal.
