Can you bet on the Liston medal?
If so I wonder what Saviour's odds were at the start of the season and what they are now?
Smack really shouldn't win it, as he should be spending the second half of the season in the AFL.

Oh for sure and hopefully he does...heck hope he goes on to a great career and people ridicule me endlessly, but expectations are a little too high...imo of course.
In the end we can judge him on recent form...which has been sensational in the VFL.

He's the in-form ruckman at the club, not that he has much competition because of how pitiful Bellchambers and Giles have been, and I'd hope not many would expect him to instantly turn us into a top side, but he should be playing.

*sigh*

Unfortunately not (CrownBet is really the only betting site that does it and they only have one futures market, the flag). Although we are a tantalising $11 for that.

Every disrespect to Boomer for that 50, actually. Absolute codswallop and the Eagles would be well entitled to be livid at it.
I despise Boomer and if he'd done that against us I'd be pissed, but there's nothing wrong with getting the job done. I'm of the opinion players are out there to win and umpires enforce the rules, if they can fool the adjudicators and gain advantage then they've done well.
My problem with staging and embellishment is that it detracts from the toughness of the sport. That said, I f a dive is the difference between Joey D lining up for a game winning goal and us losing, I fully encourage it. Until the laws of the sport properly punish staging or embellishment they will be exploited to advantage.

*Note - Daniher would miss the shot anyway.

Need to do three things to win. AND WE are playing against a pressing team.

First make sure we don't lose the inside 50's by more than 10. I expect to lose this battle because WC should win the clearances and will press up. Keep the pressure to affect the quality of their inside 50s.

Second we must be efficient inside 50. Thus is a bug ask, though you usually get a few easy goals against pressing times.

Third we need to play tempo footy. We got burnt last week because we rushed our disposal. Don't listen to the media experts who so often get it wrong. Richmond turned their season around by playing slower footy. Yet these some media figures are lauding Richmond. Go figure.

Spot on, we rushed it way too much, Cats defenders had a ball.

Also hopefully we"ll play our +1 behind the ball.

We also didn't hit targets when we slowed it down due to the pressure from the manning up by the opposition.

The last quarter (our best when we out scored Geelong), I didn't see the team slowing the ball down.

When questioned about the change in game plan against Fremantle, where Tigers slowed down the play with precision short passing, Hardwick said we could do that because we were already 7 goals in front. Their initial game plan was to go forward at pace and score and to run the Dockers best defenders out of their comfort zone.

Moral of the story, get some goals on the board before slowing it down. Forwards have a much better chance in the contest if the ball is coming in at pace (and direction if the players still remember how to do that after so much backwards and sideways crap).

Off to watch the VFL boys this afternoon. Going to give the 'main' game later this afternoon a miss.

At least the boys at VFL level look like they give a shit and actually trouble the scorers.

I don't respect the umpire in that situation either for making a decision with such large impact on something he could not possibly have seen.

One thing in support of WCE, Boomer Harvey's free kick last weekend was just not right. It is the single largest factor that cost them the game. No disrespect to the umpires. And no disrespect to Boomer or the Roos.
That is an example of what I meant by being disiplined. Priddis knew what happened, but did not say one word to the umpire about it, just ran to the mark after the 50 was given. They have obviously been drilled not to question the umpires.

Starting subs:
Eagles: Ellis
Bombers: Fantasia

The keys to beating the eagles

The eagles were always down a couple of years ago when teams tagged both Gaff and Hurn. So thats what we need to do. Id send Howlett to Hurn and Melksham to Gaff (would like Melksham to hunt the ball but we dont really have another option as a tagger). So we must mitigate these 2 getting the pill.

Efficiency into our forward 50, we cant bomb the ball. We only have Daniher and Ambrose down there. Mcgovern has been playing the role similar to Harry Taylor to a tee and he mops up absolutely anything within his vicinity.

Halve the clearances. The eagles have an advantage in this area with NicNat he will jump all over Carlisle tonight so we must prevent the easy clearances. With Shuey, Priddis, S.Selwood, Gaff and now Yeo it has become a pretty strong midfield.

I cant see us getting close just feel the eagles have way too much firepower up forward with Darling, Kennedy, Lecras, Hill, Cripps and Sinclair. NicNat will be dominating in the middle and their defense should hold up pretty well.

Looking to this afternoon’s game, Robinson believes Essendon as a club will be under a significant amount of pressure if they are heavily beaten by West Coast.

They face the Eagles without a frontline ruckman and a dysfunctional forward line that will be without Jake Carlisle who will be used to fill the ruck void.

It seems the relationships at the administration level are feeling the strain of poor form and a looming WADA appeal.

“It’s not a breakdown, but if you look at Hawthorn the relationship between Newbold, Fox, Fagan and Clarkson is as strong as steel,” said Robinson.

“I don’t think the Essendon rod is as strong as steel.

“It is a worry, so that’s why they’re in a very interesting spot, if they lose badly tonight after last week’s performance, not only are Hird and the players under scrutiny, it’s the whole club.

“The same questions will be asked of Paul Little and the four or five board members that were there when this all started.”
