Has pavlich been demoted from the commentary box to boundary rider already? Lol.

A prerequisite of staying in the box is you have to think Jetta, Rioli and Ryan are the same player.

(and now Francis 'Jackson' has been added to the list, Cameron's days as a separate entity are numbered)

**** I feel like I'm back watching the 3rd quarter of the 92 Grand Final allover again.

Matera bombing goals on the run from 55, Full Forwards snagging majors.

God Almighty.

Am I the only one who's not liking these new rules (particularly 6-6-6)? They're just gonna bring about bruise-free footy. We used to marvel at how blokes like Pendlebury seemed to find an extra second of space in massive congestion, where lesser players couldn't. Now any mid that gets first hands on the ball is afforded that space; and once they get they get the clearance it's an almost guaranteed scoring opportunity. The term "aerial ping pong" has never been more appropriate.

I get the idea behind the rule changes: that they want free flowing footy and more one-on-one contests, but I can't help but feel that umpires will still over officiate these contests, leading to contentious/tiggy touch wood free kicks rather than spectacular contested marks or incredible spoils. I also feel like it limits the options that coaches have, in terms of structural setups.

Anyways, I know it's only the 2nd JLT game, but imo West Coast are just about monty's for the flag this year. They've got hands down the best kicking skills and "keepings off" game style in the comp, which will be heavily favoured with these new rule changes. Once they get Nic Nat back to ensure they win their fair share of centre clearances, it's a wrap imo.

west coast kick well but an afl season is a marathon and injuries, form, difficulty of fixture and timing etc all play a part. nothing is a wrap, especially from a preseason game, look at last year. Geelong will make a run this year , they usually do in recent times

Considering West Coast played the highest amount of debutants last season I would say there is a lot that is new about that West Coast JLT list.
There are 11 players who either debutants from last season or are yet to debut out of 26:

Allen
Brander
Rioli
Ryan
Petch
Cameron
Watson
Venables
Waterman

Smith
Hickey

EDIT: forgot Waterman, make that 11
very true.

none of them are full time midfield beasts.

West Coast have a great bunch of young backs and forwards. Need to recruit some midfielders.

Our midfield actually has some depth this season with a real push for limited spots.

Yeo
Shuey
Gaff
Redden
Sheed

With the following 4 fighting it out for the final spot:
Masten
Hutchings
Smith
Ah Chee

Rioli also currently spends time in the middle.

Also we've got ourselves a Tim Kelly coming next season ;)

Midfield is doing alright, much better than previous seasons. We have time to recruit more midfielders.
An ageing Hurn and ageing Kennedy are much more pressing replacements that need to be found.

Watching the replay. 1st quarter.
How the hell did Vardy end up with the shot on goal after kneeing Taylor in the head nowhere near the ball?

Geelong player pushed him in the back which is what cause his jump to go errant and knee Taylor straight in the back of the head.

And people said that about us all the way until quarter time of the prelim. History has shown that the best team at the start of the year (or even throughout it) more often than not does not win the flag.

At least that's what I'm hoping for my own sake this year.

How do you know Richmond wont be 10-0?

Here's a clue he won a brownlow.....but he did so while his direct opponent would kill wc the other direction
Oh yes. I see.
