Ollie Lord just doesn’t seem to be able to read the ball when’s it’s coming in, he’s either out of position or drops marks that are put to him lace out.
Watched him in several SANFL games last year get absolutely towelled up by part timers.
Has he had his eyes checked?

To the game. Doesn't really matter who we played, we looked good. We certainly wouldn't have produced that the last few pre-seasons. I get that we'd be trying to prove a bit of a point with the new coach and all.

Drew immense, played a different style. Connor, Zak 1 and 2. Leadership group very positive. Dante got more impressive as the game went on. Could see why Josh selected him, he must've showed more than Sweet in pre season. Love Zadow's cameo. Richards ripper. Won't go through them all, but I really liked Evans. I agree with most on our defence, will be our weak point. At some stage he'll need to play Esava. Mitch freak, will need help.

Also its going to sound silly but an unheralded player who is pigeon holed as a blue collar or less mid who personally i thought was BOG today wasnt a 30+ disposal winner is was Drew.

Long arms clamping tackles knowing whichever eagles player he got hold of was going absolutely nowhere, stuffed up a couple of times as a normal player does, kicked a goal on the run, 7 tackles, 5 clearances, 515 metres gained, 16 pressure acts 24 touches with 16 contested possessions in 60% game time as more of a ball winner inside mid says it all. Butters/Rozee dont get the free run with the ball and are able to use the ball without these in and under types. He complimented the short statured players and was important with no wines or brodie around.

He has every right to be in this team.

When we recruited Brodie I said that Drew might need to improve to keep his spot. Well, he has, and considerably so. I'd have him ahead of not just Brodie but Wines too in the form he's in at the moment.

His first half was pants, his second half was very good. He's not a defender though. If he gets pulled deep by his opponent he'll be exploited.
Let's see, I see a lot of potential with him as defender. I agree he might struggle one on one but I think with our zonal defence he can be an asset down back.

Not sure why people are losing their minds over Marshall's move. Thought he was very good with 5 intercepts and good ball use.

Will only get better with time.
Hard to judge his performance as good when he was really poor until the last quarter when the intensity was completely down and he took a stack of easy grabs. They were encouraging signs, but we need to see more.

If we want to win next week, you dont go into the game with Marshall and Ramm, youve gotta pick one. Else you are conceding that we dont care about the result and are prioritising the rebuild.

Berry runs hard and likes to take the game on. Can't wait to see more of him in the season proper.

Fairly anonymous games from Jones, but I don't really get that heart-in-throat feeling seeing him with the ball any more.
Jones chased really hard all game but his disposal is still poor. He also needs to improve his decision making. He should be a better player by now, his development has been disappointing imo.

Jack Watkins been good, a lot of people on here mocked his selection on the list.
Watkins looked like he belonged out there. His hands were clean, his pressure was great and he got to the right spots. He got caught taking too long a couple of times but no more than most midfielders do. He deserves to play against the Kangaroos in my opinion. He certainly should be ahead of Lorenz who really did struggle with the speed of the game today.

Yeh he regularly doesnt read the flight of the ball but then will take a screamer. Its weird.

Watched Burgoynes running patterns very closely. He is a skilled player with an excellent reflex handpass. But he doesn't seem to get involved enough in the play. We went through the corridor alot & he played wide for a fair bit of the game so that explains it partly. But does he lack the tank to play his current role or does his personality stop him from imposing himself on the game?

His best position imo is in defense. I'd love to know how he feels about his current role in the team. I think he has more to give.

Duursma cannot kick. Must have some other tricks to be taken at pick 1, cos kicking is not one of them…

mad flashbacks to some vintage andrew moore-esque blind dump kicks outta congestion absolutely did not raise his head and look, straight from hand to foot in under 0.25 seconds with no one in the vicinity or straight tumble punts. Commentators went on about his boots; if he chucked on bailey dales cleats aint nothing fixing his kicking besides looking where hes kicking/taking his time

How good was it when Whitlock in the last quarter had a mark(maybe received a free kick) at half Bank
Hand balled it off

Then busted his guts to get deep forward and found a mismatch what LorenZ executed a clever kick to him

Imagine scratching your head wondering where you’re gonna play all of MG, Whitlock, Dougie and Zemes lol

Spot on - maybe it was the kick up the bum he needed. He had stagnated.

Ollie Lord has 2 years to improve ... currently he is holding a KPF position for Dougie Cochrane / Zemes Pilot

our future forward line is

FF Berry, Whitlock, Pilot /D Cochrane
HF JHF, MG, Richards

Pilot & D Cochrane changing as ruck rover

Lord is gone at the end of year for me. Early call but Lord will no doubt feel he is on the outer with Dougie coming onboard next season and request either a trade or get delisted and sign on to another club as a DFA if club(s) need key forward depth.
