Ollie Lord just doesn’t seem to be able to read the ball when’s it’s coming in, he’s either out of position or drops marks that are put to him lace out.
Watched him in several SANFL games last year get absolutely towelled up by part timers.
Little thing for me but he spends too much time with his arms out after a contest complaining about a missed free.

THE GOOD

Richards and Berry up forward.
Rozee and Butters obviously.
Georgiades looking the goods.
Drew was outstanding in the first half and had his kicking boot on.
Gameplan looked good.
Hardness, toughness, intensity and tackling was so great to see.
Good kicking for goal especially from deep early.
The Hornet got through unscathed. Did enough.

Mackinley was constantly in amongst it.
Whitlock is half a season or another preseason away from dominating. Ditto Berry.
Watkins was good as midfield backup. His contested possessions really balanced us out.
I thought Marshall and Mead was pretty good. Like Carr said, they will get better.
Evans and Jones looked good.

THE BAD

Ramm needs to learn his craft at the Magpies. I don't think he's fully grown into his body yet. That spoil at the start of the last quarter was very tasty.
A few turnovers from defence.
Lord was a bit under.

THE UGLY

West Coast

FAVE GOAL - Jones with a long kick to the wing to a pack, Whitlock manages to handpass to Mackinley, Mackinley jets to Rozee, Rozee jets to Butters and Rozee shepherds, Butters directs Berry to lead and hits him 45 out. Berry goes back and nails it. Really fun watching three speedsters on the wing.

Horny had some nice moments too and got through unscathed which is the main thing.

You betcha had a big grin on my face to see him there at the end.

Sheesh Berry's a smooth mover looked very good. Only seen highlights and this thread but was Whitlock

in ruck and how did he go?

What a cracking passage of play. Watching Rozee and Butters put on the afterburners was crazy good.

Lord and Whitlock both had a few goes at the ruck, i think both of them showed promise without setting the world on fire. Okay second ruck options and the new ruck rules probably suit them. Dante was good and looks to have cemented his spot for round 1.

I'm probably a bit harsh here, but he should of marked that. It was a sign that he is struggling at this level and needs more work.

Something that stood out to me was players in the middle using their left foot. Drew and Watkins were the main ones of this and Drew was excellent at it, when I feel previously he'd never use his left in congestion.

Watkins really impressed too, seems he can play mid and high half forward so a bit of a versatility too.

Carr really values possession and taking care of the football. Lots of 30m kicks, on a 45 degree angle, cutting through the defense. I like it.
I think it will take a while for the home crowd to get use to the extra possessions though. Will be plenty of happy clappers screaming "just kick the bloody thing!!!"...

For all the Eagles were crap discussions Port to me were by far the best performed team this week by a fair bit. Take into account that

Like the move of Marshall down back. He could be a A grade CHB since he reads the play so well. Especially like it because with Whitlock/Georgiades/JHF you have enough firepower to not need him.

I’m no happy clapper, I can assure you.

And I’ll probably be one of the first to yell out “Go long you drongoes” 😁

It's hard to know until we see you guys in the next few weeks. Honestly though that was all just a bit too easy through the middle of the ground, Drew, Rozee and Butters looked like they were playing against an WAFL side. Additionally we scored with ease off the back of it.

When you guys were able to win the ball in the middle, apart from the 3rd quarter, we struggled to transition the ball and the game was closer than the scoreboard suggested as we took our chances and your poor skills (+our pressure) prevented you guys from doing the same.

Hard to see the Eagles doing anything other than fighting for a bottom 2 place this year.

Feels like it will take some time to get this new plan running smoothly. Our players have had all their natural self-confidence and decision making coached out of them so its baby steps right now.
11 goal quarters are always good for breeding that confidence!
