My concern is we’ve seen this plenty of times before. We beat up on the bad teams because of our pressure, but when we get the same applied to us we fold.
Mental strength is going to be important this year against the better sides. I hope we have it.

We had 4 inside 50's in 4th qtr to west coast who had 19

Yet we still won the quarter

this gives me confidence that our backline can hold up ok
Last quarter was junktime, we were playing all sorts in the middle and in preservation mode. Thats why I dont get too excited by Marshall taking 4 of his 5 intercepts in the last. Hard to read anything into that quarter.

Look forward to seeing what we produce in a fortnight, hopefully we can bottle and reproduce that 3rd quarter system.

us losing inside 50's in total and smashing them is probs a better representation, but yeah im not sure how much we can take away from it due to playing a bottom 4 side and it being a pre-season match

We got beaten by a Cows outfit without Butters, Georgy, etc that know their plan back to front but played really well against a bottom 4 side.

Carr will be working out who he can count on to fill roles and who is not quite up to it and to see whether we have it on the list and if not, hello draft and trading.

I think we will have a bit of an up and down year but I think the work in the contest that Carr continually talks up will help us a lot and play out four quarters.

Anyone watch AFL360 last night? Interesting comments about the Port thrashing of WC made by AFL boss Greg Swann:

Swann was probed by Gerard Whateley on West Coast’s lack of competitiveness in its heavy Community Series loss to Port Adelaide.

“I did watch a bit of that game — I mean, maybe we haven’t given Port much credit; they were very sharp,” he said.

I did chuckle at that ... pretty much we have gone from one of the premiership favorites in 2024 to bottom 4 side in the space of 12 months!

No Ken Hinkley - No Port
No Draft Picks - No Port

Going to surprise a few of these "experts" methinks.

There's many factors in media to say what they do and have about port. Vic media will also say what ever they can in attempts to lure Butters and others back from Port, even if that's saying they are a bottom 4 side when, as you said, were still in premiership window and top 4 or 8. Nothing's changed except Kens gone, Chad's gone, and other stale baggage with new coaches and Carr as head coach when he's been here for years anyway. That, and Boak and Rioli. No one else that left was much of a difference or needle mover and if anything, as much as Port didn't draft anyone in national draft, they literally got players via mid season draft 2025 and free agency or picks trade. They may not be A grade stars but they filled issues and depth and a role players, which is exactly what Carr wanted and needed.

Easy to see the depth now with the 2s already and having the challenge of picking R1 23 squad.

I'm not expecting a flag this year but not writing them off as outside the 8 or bottom 4. That's just ******ed.

I agree, playing personal. Wise we didnt lose much.

Coaching wise i feel we've improved, so if players can adapt quickly to the plan, our upward trajectory could be greater than expected

According to Chad Corner the game plan is not much different and David King's praise of Josh Carr was to get back at Hinkley. What are you, 7 years old Chad? How are those grapes? A bit on the sour side?
Sounds like a normal dumb **** Cornes then!

Lol goes to show the types of insecure brainlets we had in charge for so long. A little bit of self awareness would go a long way.

When I think of West Coast I think of their 4 flags versus our 1, with their 6 extra years.

And now they are a Fitzroy-type rabble.

Then I ask myself, that if it was possible to swap positions and take those 4 premierships but be a mess now, would the average Port fan take it. As far as myself is concerned, I don't find it to be an easy decision to make.

I’d take the 4 flags, but 2 of those flags were over 30 years ago so a vast majority of their fan base probably weren’t around or old enough to remember or experience those flags but I’d take a few years down the bottom for just one flag right now but I don’t think that is the price you have to pay if you make good decisions.

West Coast aren’t like Fitzroy, they are a very strong and rich club off field, they’ll turn it around on field but they are paying the price for chasing one more flag with the 2018 squad when they maybe should’ve pulled the pin and started the rebuild earlier. They’ve made some mistakes that have prolonged this rebuild but they’ll get back there.

A lot of 2002 Port Adelaide about that game. Skill, speed, presence, contest. We physically imposed ourselves on the contest when needed .
Richards wow what a game.
Jones is Bishop 2.0. His unpredictable play is a bonus for the team but you are going to get one or two **** ups a game.
Everyone is right in that Ramm is not ready yet but he at least is willing to compete one on one. If we are going to win a flag we need him to develop. It is going to be like watching a young weitering. The finished product is so important for us.

What

We exist to win premierships. Honestly I don't see how its not the easiest decision in the history of the world.

Since 2004 they've played in 4 grand finals and won 2 flags. Nothing guarantees they won't make another GF before us either. They're one of the most dominant clubs in the AFL. We've been a laughing stock for over a decade.
