Some interesting results today. Collingwood handed Sydney their first loss, GWS got their first win against the Bulldogs, and the. Port hanging on to beat Melbourne.

Almost as though the huge gap between top and bottom teams isn't as huge as people were saying. It makes our wins against lower teams look better.

Flicking through u/18 teams of yesteryear and I've come to the realisation that South Australia's pretty feral when it comes to selecting its teams. I'm looking at results from 2022 and Lucy Boyd and Riggsy played in that year and Boyd played in a game against WA that still had Ella Roberts and Lauren Wakfer playing :tearsofjoy:

Just came to post this, a real beat down atm
Feels like the dons have been 100% figured out.
They play on quick try to run on to the ball in open play and get out the back to score.
The minute a club goes 100% 1v1 doesn't allow them easy exits or marks they can't score and get burned hard on rebound.

They also have no plan B for when that doesn't work.

I noticed it after the game and sausage Gossage pointed it out on Twitter...I really...REALLY don't like the smiling and laughing after a game..especially after a Derby where they've failed to even win one..they did the same thing after the heartbreaking loss to Essendon as well.

I know it's basically a team of babies who are mostly 21/22 and younger, but God damn. I saw India Rasheed f*cking CRY after the Crows loss last week...CRY. While I still think they're a few years away from getting anywhere near the perennial best four or whatever teams in the league, the wheel has to turn for these girls at some stage that they shouldn't be happy just to be there any more and want to start making history for this club.

You want an audit on how good you really are as a young team? Melbourne at Casey Fields next week. You'll get your answer then.

Disappointing loss but realistically we’ve probably had four matches which were about 50/50 propositions and we’ve split them (Gold Coast being the one we were heavily favoured).

Melbourne next week is obviously a tough ask but barring a surprise win in that one, I’d say that today’s loss pretty much makes the two home games after Melbourne (GWS and Collingwood) must-win.

I don't think you need to be grumpy to be a good player or team, for us Kearney is always miserable when we lose and was a huge driver for the club to improve, others like Garner never really showed a lot of negative emotion after a loss. Not everyone is going to handle the emotion of losses the same and it doesn't make you a good or bad player based on how you react after a loss.

You just need to have everyone that has the drive to improve, you are more likely to see it from grumpy people who hate losing but ultimately how you play is a product of how you train and prepare, most of the hard work is done over the pre-season. There are some things you can do in-season but the AFLW season is very short, it is difficult to change things significantly.

There are a lot of yo-yo clubs that have a good year, get a harder draw then have a bad year, it becomes very challenging when you have restricted access to the better talent in the draft year after year, you become a lot more dependant on having good systems in place, developing players that have less obvious talent or more deficiencies into good reliable players. That ultimately is the challenge of breaking into that top four or so teams and being able to contend year after year.

Hooker straight swap, or does this open the door for a Johnson debut?

Could literally be Hooker, Belinda Smith, Johnson or if they got a set of stones on them, Boyd debut.

Depending on how cooked McGrath's ankle is, two of the four may be the in's this week.

I’d like to see us go in smaller in the absence of McGrath (we pretty much have to anyway, there’s no more talls to bring in).

Franklin, Riggs, a resting ruck (Wakfer/Lakay), Gibson, and forward stints from Painter/Roberts/Lewis should be plenty of marking targets.

Give Kavanagh another run, I reckon.

Even with Johnson, Boyd and Smith available, we’re going to have to go into train-ons to fill out the emergencies.

And it’s round 6.

And were already starting the season a player down when they decided not to do anything about replacing Hosking's list spot 🤷‍♂️

And who knows with Painter and concussions, could be a week, could be a few...hope she's all good..also, that could be the end of Lindgren's AFLW run as well, being a replacement player and all.
