Keeping C graders is pretty much the opposite of being ruthless.

The 10 commandments of West Coasts Rebuild, Rewire, Re-stump, Re-plumb.

1. Thou shall not re-sign players over 30 on multiple year deals.
2. Thou shall not re-sign nic, shuey, hurn, gov and gaff past their current deals
3. Thou shall delist plodders who are out of contract at the end of the year
4. Thou shall not play gaff as an inside mid
5. Thou shall review the strength & conditioning program
6. Thou shall review the medical department
7. Thou shall not draft players who are perennially injured in their underage years
8. Thou shall entertain trades for ryan & darling (not saying they should do it, but see whats on offer)
9. Thou shall not play gaff when our list is fitter
10. Thou shall not offer McInnes/Ah-chee 10x 1 year deals for crabs

Retiring eight players (excluding delistings of which there will be multiple) means you need to replace them with eight players - minimum.

Which eight players minimum are you thinking of? 6 draftees, 2 rookies, and 2 in the MSD?

The Nuffies' rules of rebuilding:
a. Delist or trade anyone over the age of 30 and anyone that has not become an established best 22 player within their first season
b. Create wildly inflated trades for anyone in step a. that has some kind of reputation. Examples: Nic Nat for a first rounder, Darling for two seconds etc
c. Go to the draft needing to select 20 players in one hit, requiring us to select 15 players after pick 60
d. Blast the club into oblivion, but that's OK, because we are playing the youth and will be getting the number 1 draft pick for the next 10 years
