Today the West Indies Cricket Board announced that former Australian cricketer Mike Hussey would be taking over as head coach as of the 1st of January 2015. This leaves Hussey with just 6 matches, a T20 and 5 ODIs and 2 months before the World Cup.

Hussey's first game in charge is a T20 against India.

9/1/15 India vs. West Indies, Eden Gardens Kolkata

West Indies Side:
1. Chris Gayle
2. Lendl Simmons
3. Marlon Samuels
4. Dwayne Bravo
5. Kieron Pollard
6. Andre Russell
7. Denesh Ramdin (WK)
8. Darren Sammy (C)
9. Kemar Roach
10. Sunil Nareen
11. Samuel Badree

India Side:
1. Shikar Dhawan
2. Rohit Sharma

5. MS Dhoni (C) (WK)
6. Suresh Raina
7. Ravi Jadeja
8. Ravi Ashwin
9. Amit Mishra
10. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
11. Shami Ahmed

India won the toss and on a pitch that favoured the bowlers elected to bat first. Kemar Roach made an excellent start for the Windies removing both Dhawan (0) and Sharma (4) in the first over but then Kohli (58 off 50) and Rahane (47 off 37) combined for a 95 run partnership to help guide India to a total of 7-147, a good total considering the conditions. Dwayne Bravo was the pick of the bowlers taking 3-28 of his 4 overs, while Badree was economical with figures of 1-21.

Gayle and Simmons opened up for the West Indies and they got of to a very slow start making just 28 runs of the powerplay thanks to some excellent bowling from Ahmed, Ashwin and Jadeja. Just as Gayle was starting to look threatening he was removed for 25 off 31 and the West Indies were in trouble at 1-45 of 9 overs. Simmons (72* off 57) and Samuels (32* off 32) batted out the rest of the Innings but they just couldn't make up for the slow start. They doubled the score of the last 7 overs, but fell 17 runs short with a final score of 1-130. Jadeja 0-17 and Ashwin 0-18 both bowled well without taking a wicket.

Lendl Simmons was man of the match for his unbeaten 72 off 57 balls.

Hussey after the match had this to say: "Obviously we are disappointed with the result, but their were some promising signs, Dwayne (Bravo) and Sunil (Narine) bowled really well and Lendl (Simmons) played a good innings. Full credit to the Indian bowlers, they bowled very well to restrict us to such a low score"

5. Dwayne Bravo (C)
6. Denesh Ramdin
7. Andre Russell

9. Kyle Abbott
10. Morne Morkel
11. Imran Tahir

Some interesting selections in the South African side, with the thought to be retired Jacques Kallis being named, along with debutants JJ Smuts and Rushdi Jappie. JJ Smuts' selection had been warranted with excellent form in the South African domestic competitions, but Jappie is a puzzling decision (I assume it is a bug in the game)

Dwayne Bravo won the toss and chose to bat first. Chris Gayle got the West Indies off to a flyer combining with Sarwan (23 off 43) for a 113 opening partnership of the first 18 overs. Gayle was dismissed 10 overs later after making 102 off just 94 deliveries. Both the Bravo's struggled making just a combined 38 runs off 79 balls, but Kieron Pollard (54* off 73) helped guide the West Indies to a score of 5-239. Imran Tahir took 2-25 off 7 overs while Morne Morkel had figures of 1-36 from 10 overs.

Kemar Roach removed Amla for 2 in the first over of South Africa's innings to get the West Indies off to an excellent start for the 2nd time in the match. De Kock and van Zyl steadied the ship with a 78 run partnership before Andre Russell clean bowled van Zyl for 36 off 52. De Kock (58 from 81) and Smuts (66 from 87) both made half centuries to have South Africa at 4-205 needing 35 runs from 29 balls by the time they had been dismissed.
AB De Villiers came in and smashed 14 off 5 leaving South Africa with 5 wickets in hand and just 21 runs needed from the final 4 overs. Dwayne Bravo and Sammy were able to rip through the tail however, Bravo took 3 wickets and Sammy 2 as the South African bowlers combined for just 4 runs and only lasted 12 balls. Dwayne Bravo took 3-31 of 7.5 over, Sammy took 2-33 from 8 overs and Roach was expensive but got key wickets in his 3-45 in 7 overs. South Africa finished up with 226 All Out, meaning the West Indies won by 13 runs and Mike Hussey got his first win in charge of the West Indies.

Chris Gayle was man of the match for his 102 runs.

Hussey post match: "I'm thrilled with the result, to get the win over South Africa who are one of the best teams in the world on their home soil is a big result for us. Chris [Gayle] was absolutely fantastic hopefully he can do that a few more times in this series"

2. Darren Bravo
3. Marlon Samuels
4. Dwayne Bravo (C)
5. Kieron Pollard
6. Andre Russell
7. Denesh Ramdin
8. Darren Sammy
9. Sunil Narine
10. Kemar Roach
11. Fidel Edwards

2 Changes for this match, with Marlon Samuels replacing Sarwan in the hope of providing quicker scoring at the top of the order, which means Darren Bravo moves to opener. The other change is Fidel Edwards replacing Jerome Taylor who was expensive and ineffectual last match.

South Africa side:
1. Hashim Amla
2. Quinton De Kock
3. Stiann van Zyl
4. Jacques Kallis
5. AB De Villiers (C)
6. Rushdi Jappie
7. Wayne Parnell
8. Vernon Philander
9. Kyle Abbott
10. Morne Morkel
11. Imran Tahir

1 Change for South Africa, Wayne Parnell comes in for JJ Smuts who is out injured.

De Villiers won the toss and elected to bat first. Amla was again removed early, this time in the 4th over by Edwards for just 11 runs. De Kock smashed 41 off 32 to have South Africa at 2-65 off 10 overs when he was dismissed. Kallis (66 off 86) and van Zyl (84 off 116) combined for a 120 run partnership and AB De Villiers (33* off 29) provided some late innings hitting to help South Africa to a very good total of 7-265. Fidel Edwards took 4-51 from his 10 overs.

There would be no century for Gayle (1 off 10) this time as he was removed early on by Philander. Marlon Samules came in and got the Windies back on track with 49 runs off 52 balls in an innings featuring 8 boundaries, 2 of them sixes. The Bravo's made an 100 run partnership, Darren (63 off 79) and Dwayne (55 off 86) leaving the West Indies at 4-180, needing 86 runs off the last 12 overs but with Pollard and Russell at the crease that was a very possible run chase. Kieron Pollard (50 off 35) did his part but Russell (21* off 36) couldn't hit anything out of the middle of the bat as the West Indies ended up on 5-254, 12 runs short. Vernon Philander was the pick of the bowlers finishing with very economical figures of 1-36.

Stann van Zyl was man of the match for his 84 runs.

Hussey post-match: "I thought we gave away a few too many runs when bowling, ideally we were hoping to keep them under 250 and we couldn't do that and when you are chasing higher totals it puts a lot of pressure of the batsmen to score quickly. Andre [Russell] was very dissapointed in his own performance, he knows he needs to be better than he was tonight"

Kallis (73 off 92) and Amla (113 off 130) came together at the crease at 2-34 but put together a 155 run partnership to see their side to 3-189. South Africa ended up with a decent total of 6-250. Chris Gayle (115 off 124) was again spectacular, together with Darren Bravo (36 of 67) they made an 144 run opening stand. Once Gayle was removed following an superb delivery from Philander, the West Indies struggled falling 27 runs short. The final score was 4-225. Chris Gayle outscored the rest of the team + extras combined. Imran Tahir was the best bowler for the Proteas, taking 1-30 off 8 overs.

Hashim Amla was man of the match for his 113 runs.

Hussey post-match: "Hashim Amla is a very good player, we had gotten him out early in the first 2 games so it was only a matter of time before he had a big innings. Chris [Gayle] batted very well for his 2nd century in 3 games but there was simply no help for him, the other batsmen need to be scoring more runs if we are to win these games"

De Villiers won the toss and elected to bat first. Roach got the Wicket of De Kock (4) in the first over, and Gayle got his first wicket bowling his first spell of the series (Van Zyl for 21 off 26) to put the Proteas at 2-50 after 8 overs. Amla (68 off 85), Kallis (84 off 126) and De Villiers (56* off 47) all made half centuries as South Africa made 6-253 from their 50 overs. Kemar Roach bowled very well taking 3-42 from 10 overs. Chris Gayle was also handy with figures of 1-18 from 4 overs.

The chase got off to the worst possible start when Gayle got out for a duck on the 3rd ball of the innings. Darren Bravo was then dismissed for a poor 5 off 21 and the West Indies were in serious trouble at 2-32 after 10.4 overs. Samuels (72 off 95) and Dwayne Bravo (75 off 87) combined for a 112 run partnership to give the Windies some hope, but in the end the slow start was too much to overcome as the West Indies finished up on 5-226. Morkel (2-38) and Philander (2-35) both bowled very well.

Kallis was man of the match for his 84 runs.

With the win South Africa clinched the series 3-1, with 1 game still remaining.

Hussey post-match: "Well done to South Africa to win series, in this game I thought we bowled well, especially Kemar (Roach). He has been good for us this whole series. We just got off to a poor start in our innings and we couldn't overcome that. There will be a few changes made for the last match"

It appears Gayle really dropped the ball on that last game...oh well, good luck over the next few matches.

Also, may I ask what game this is, it's looking pretty interesting.
Yeah, it's tough to win if Gayle doesn't go well. Thanks, one more game against South Africa and then the world cup so should at least get some wins over the minnow nations at the world cup.

The game is Cricket Coach 2014 http://www.cricketcoachgame.com/

3. Stiann van Zyl
4. JJ Smuts
5. Jacques Kallis

JJ Smuts returns from injury replacing Kyle Abbott

South Africa won the toss for the 4th time in a row and sent the Windies in to bat in tough batting conditions. The innings got off to a bad start with Smith (4) falling in the 3rd over. Gayle (25 off 34) left the crease soon after leaving the West Indies in trouble at 2-42. Things got worse as when Ramdin (2) was caught off the bowling of Tahir the score was 5-83. Pollard (39 off 51) and Sammy (27 off 38) helped the Windies to a somewhat respectable score of 156 all out. Kallis took 3-24 and the only thing stopping him from a hat trick was a wide in between the 2nd and 3rd wickets.

The South African run chase got off to a poor start when 4 of the top 5 were dismissed within the first 10 overs to have them at 4-33. Smuts (33 off 38) and Jappie (19 off 33) got the Proteas to 5-100, but 3 wickets fell quickly to Roach and Narine and the Windies were on the verge of victory at 8-119. Narine (3-22) and Taylor (3-35) had both bowled all of their allocated overs which made it hard to get the last 2 wickets. Philander (35* off 47) and Morkerl (10* off 22) steered South Africa home with an excellent partnership for their 4th consecutive victory.

Vernon Philander was man of the match for taking 3-46 and making unbeaten 35.
South Africa wins the series 4-1

Hussey post-match: "We batted very poorly and that cost us the game, that's all there is to it. We went with one less all-rounder and one extra specialist bowler for this match and perhaps that was a bad choice, but overall there are a lot of things we need to work on heading into the world cup"

Jacques Kallis was the series leading run scorer with 255 runs @ 63.75
Kemar Roach was the leading wicket taking with 9 wickets @ 23.33

West Indies player ratings:

Kemar Roach - 8.5/10 - 9 wickets @ 23.33 Economy of 4.57
By far the best bowler and overall the best player for the Windies, Roach took 9 wickets at an excellent average while maintaining a decent economy. The only West Indian bowler to take a wicket in every game.

Chris Gayle - 7.5/10 - 243 runs @ 48.60, 1 wicket @ 18 Economy of 4.5
Gayle was inconsistent with his batting but he made 2 centuries along with scores of 1, 0 and 25. The highest run scorer for the Windies and was also handy in the 4 overs he bowled.

Marlon Samuels 7.5/10 - 185 runs @ 61.67
Missed out on selection for the 1st game but showed why he belongs in the best XI with strong performances in the matches he did play, got starts in every game but never went on to make a big score.

Kieron Pollard 7/10 - 196 runs @ 49, 1 wicket @ 65 Economy of 5.42
Batted well late in the innings maintaining a good S/R most of the time unlike many of the other late order hitters. Bowling was ordinary, picking up just the one wicket and being a touch expensive.

Sunil Narine 7/10 - 5 wickets @ 38.80 Economy of 4.04
Economical in the first 4 games without taking many wickets, he was sensational in the last game taking 3-22 from 10 overs to give the team a chance of winning the match.

Jerome Taylor - 6.5/10 4 wickets @ 15.75 Economy of 4.20
Dropped after a poor performance in the 1st match he didn't regain his spot until the final game, but when he did he bowled very well giving him the lowest average of all West Indian bowlers.

Fidel Edwards - 6.5/10 6 wickets @ 23.17 Economy of 5.35
Highly inconsistent, Edward was able to take wickets but also leaked runs which led to him being dropped from the side.

Dwayne Bravo 6.5/10 177 runs @ 35.40, 5 wickets @ 28 Economy of 5.87
With the bat Bravo had a couple of good innings making 2 half-centuries but also had 3 low scores. With the ball Bravo took wickets but he also was the most expensive of all bowlers who bowled more than 20 overs.

Darren Sammy 5/10 31 runs @ 31, 3 wickets @ 54 Economy of 4.76
Sammy didn't get much opportunity in the bat although in his one innings of length he helped save the side from getting a score under 100. With the ball he failed to take many wickets although his economy was ok.

Darren Bravo 4/10 117 runs @ 29.25
Had one good score of 63 but apart from that he scored far too slow and not enough runs.

Tino Best 3/10 1 wicket @ 42 Economy of 7
Took a wicket but he leaked far too many runs which put pressure on the other bowlers and led to a 2 wicket win for the Proteas.

Andre Russell 3/10 27 runs @ - , 1 wicket @ 81 Economy of 4.76
His batting was poor, with his slow scoring costing the Windies the 2nd ODI. When bowling he only took the 1 wicket but was able to bowl a reasonable economy.

Ramnaresh Sarwan 2.5/10 23 runs @ 23
Played just the one game where he scored 23 at a S/R of barely over 50, but he was part of a big partnership with Gayle.

Dwayne Smith 2/10 20 runs @ 20
His 16* in one match was ok but he was then given a chance to open the batting but he made just 4 runs opening up. Despite being an all-rounder he wasn't given a chance to bowl.

Denesh Ramdin 1.5/10 13 runs @ 6.5, 2 Catches 2 Stumpings
Wasn't given much opportunity with the bat but when he was he struggled, and dropped twice as many catches as he took. He was however good at taking stumping opportunities.

Devendra Bishoo 1/10 0 wickets @ - Economy of 6.5
Didn't take any wickets and was expensive in the one game he played.
