Windies belted the Kiwis last night in the first T20 at Lauderhill in Florida. NZ's awful bowling no match for Gayle and Pollard. Ross Taylor and Jacob Oram (suprise, suprise) picking up injuries as well. Taylor to miss part of the ODI series. Second T20 is tonight, again in Florida.

Pretty gutsy move from the WICB to stage both T20s in America, but what I saw of the replay this afternoon showed a very healthy crowd with a great atmosphere. The ground itself was very similar to the typical cricket stadium in the Windies. Flat pitch and smallish boundaries to boot. Second T20 tonight. NZ to get belted by even more with a weakened side.

ODIs:
July 5 and 7 @ Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica
July 11, 14 and 16 @ Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts

July 20-22 West Indies A vs. New Zealanders @ Sir Viv Stadium, Antigua

Tests:
July 25-29 @ Sir Viv Stadium, Antigua
August 2-6 @ Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica

Windies to win the ODIs 3-2. NZ the Tests 1-0. Windies limited overs batting looks very strong in home conditions. Looking forward to the Tests the most. Two very evenly matched longer form sides. Hope to see similar pitches to the Australia series a few months back, plenty of spin and spongy bounce.

Windies are far too inconsistent so can't see them winning a series, even on home soil. New Zealand are a classy one day unit and usually perform well anywhere. They'll win the ODI series 3-2 IMO and the test series will be a 1-1 draw.

I'd love to see Kieron Pollard get a go at test level and I don't know why they won't give him a gig. He averages 38 at First Class level, which isnt great, but it's more than Deonarine, Fudaddin, Edwards and Powell, who were all given a go against England. Not sure if Chanderpaul is fit but he'd be a definite inclusion to that Windies Test XI, while Gayle will take Powell's spot at the top of the order.

Pitches in the West Indies are pretty flat these days but hopefully it's a fun series in both the ODI's and Tests.

NZ get belted again in the second T20. Interesting boundary interview with the head of the WICB saying that Florida may well enter regular rotation as a West Indies home venue for limited overs matches should the numbers following these two matches warrant it. Interesting in that it was NZ's initiative to take cricket to America. Must be pretty happy with the results.

ODI squads:

West Indies squad: Darren Sammy (capt), Tino Best, Dwayne Bravo, Johnson Charles, Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith.
New Zealand squad: Ross Taylor (capt), Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Dean Brownlie, Andrew Ellis, Daniel Flynn, Martin Guptill, Tom Latham, Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Tarun Nethula, Rob Nicol, Jacob Oram, Tim Southee, BJ Watling, Kane Williamson.
Windies missing a huge trick there by not picking a second specialist spinner. NZ can't play it and on even more helpful pitches than Florida, it's a must IMO. Narinre, Badree and Samuels were all over them last night.

Trying to pick a best XI for NZ:

Guptill
Nicol
Taylor
Williamson
Oram
Watling (WK)
McCullum
Mills
Southee
Bracewell

It just can't end well.

It gets worse, Ross Taylor won't be fit for the first few matches. Oram probably injured as well. IMO, New Zealand will be:

Guptil
Nicol
Williamson*
Flynn
Brownlie
Watling+
Ellis (*shudder*)
Nathan McCullum
Bracewell
Southee (Nethula IMO)
Mills

Flynn in for Taylor. Ellis in for Oram. I would definetly play Nethula instead of Southee, the Windies' big hitters just play pace too well on flat surfaces and there will definetly be some spin on offer for him. Bracewell stays because of the two new balls and he and Mills should bowl the majority of the first 20 overs as neither bowls well at the death. McCullum and Nicol would be my death bowlers. The more spin, the better.

Gayle
Smith
Simmons
Samuels
Dwayne Bravo
Pollard
Russell
Sammy*
Ramdin+
Rampaul
Narine

I like Smith as an opener, especially if Gayle continues to play himself in and be an anchor of sorts for the first 10 overs. It's funny how Gayle has approched the last few matches, anything full mostly gets left or punched down the ground for 1, and anything short gets hit for 6 over midwicket. Good approach especially on these pitches. Everyone except Simmons is a bowling option.

Mark Gillespie ruled out of Test series. Damn it, NZ's best bowler by far in the South Africa series in March. Pretty much assures Neil Wagner a Test debut in Antigua. Rough on any bowler to debut in Antigua, it's not the Rec Ground but it's just as flat at Sir Viv Stadium.

What a hammering. NZ batted, bowled and fielded woefully. Team selections didn't help, no idea what Ellis and Southee were doing there while Bracewell and N. McCullum chilled on the boundary line. At least Ellis got injured :thumbsu: Apparently Ross Taylor will be fit for around about the 4th game and B. McCullum has been called up from his forced rest to join ther squad. Don't know wtf NZC was thinking resting him in the first place.

Andre Russell bowled well at the top and found some movement in the air and off the seam when no others really were. Narine didn't bowl anywhere near as well as I've seen him before and NZ still had no idea. Gayle and Smith knocked the runs off with such ease, hitting sixes whenever they decided to and more balls found the middle of the bat than those that didn't. The one wicket they did lose shouldn't have been out - obviously a no-ball, 3rd umpire really buggered that one.

That's the worst NZ team I've seen in 10 years.

Good to see Smith scoring some runs. Perhaps he's finally going to take his plethora of opportunities?

Agreed, it's starting right now. This is bullshit. They normally attach it to another channel via viewer's choice if it clashes with something else. Keeping it off for delayed golf?? Wtf?
exactly what i was about to write, it's not even live golf, and they'd put it on viewer's choice, this is ridiculous

just sent an email to feedback@foxsports.com.au, it will do absolutely nothing though hahaha

three sixes in an over for gayle; i only know that because of cricinfo, thanks fs :)

And there's Gayle's hundred. 88 balls, 7 fours, 8 sixes, 20th ODI ton, most by a West Indian. Only 8 bowlers used so far by NZ in 30 overs. Fairly decent comeback to international cricket, you'd have to say.

Just imagine the amount of times they've run sides close over the past 14 months and could have used some runs at the top.

Another hammering for NZ. Not as bad this time, NZ managed 260 after Windies posted 315. There were a few positives at least: BJ Watling's form made the end result look not as bad as it was going to be, and it seems Williamson has learned to rotate the strike better in the middle overs.

Geez Samuels played some nice shots at the end there. Those three cover drives for 4 in a row of Southee were something of beauty.

My prediction is bang on so far. Windies look a million dollars in the first two ODI's, but will probably still lose the series. I'm a freak tipster thats for sure.

Jesus, how weak is that NZ squad? They won't get close to a win.

Well played ;) I'll pay that.

WTF happened?! I went to bed with the Kiwis in all sorts and assumed it was over. Guess you can never really assume that with any NZ team...haha.

No matter how many matchwinners the Windies can put on the park, they are always going to implode like that one or twice in a series.

Tim Southee of all people made the big breakthrough getting Gayle early. His circumspect starting approach worked against him this time. Trent Boult bowled pretty well to the top order. 250 really was a below par score on that track. The longest boundary was 66m and the outfield was lightening. Bit of a bogey ground for the Windies apparently.

Darren Sammy was distraught in the post-match interview. Maybe the whole Runako Morton rememberance event got to them.

After getting hammered in the first 2 ODIs, NZ defend - and easily so - a very modest 250 on a ground with a good batting track, which is the size of a postage stamp and has a quick outfield just to top things off.

God I love cricket.
