It takes me back to my youth, many years ago. I was playing in the Shell Shield, an U17 competition over Christmas for a grade club. Our top 6 batsmen had a propensity to be dismissed in the teens, leaving the tail to re-build the innings. They thought making 15 was doing their job.

One day, as usual, our top 6 batsman all made scores in the teens. Our coach was a Shefield Shield player who was normally softly spoken shut the door at the end of the innings and went off his nut at the batsmen. I've never forgotten it to this day.

Somehow, I don't think the Sheffield Shield will be coming back to Adelaide this season. Too many players down on last year's form. Since his Test debut last year, McSweeney has been very ordinary.

The most surprising thing about today is Bancroft getting a 50, and getting it in less than 150 balls.

I know this wasn't what you were responding to, but last year Bancroft had just 33 runs from 7 innings, then scored 105 not out against .... SA. This year he has scored 21 runs in 4 innings, he is currently 52 not out against .... SA. We are very good at playing people back into form

I think most of the batting lineup would be happy just to spend as much time in the middle as they can. The game is still young.
