Re: Western Region Football League team

i love how u blokes jump on things u wouldnt no the reason behind it mate at all! $1000 a game not even close so u can stick that rumour! 3 clubs in 6 years so ur wrong again im not ging into any details about it im not into that shit but one thing il say is i enjoyed my time at albion and for one reason or another few things didnt workout! So any rumours are al wrong and b*llshit! so ur info is wrong. if u think Albion would be better off without their captain and b&f winner then they're ur thoughts not the clubs i wouldnt think! I dont really no Zavalas that well so to say he would buy and sell me as a player and a person is a bit rich i think. Iwish zavalas and the club all the best and we move on! Tthats all i say about the issue i think theres better things on here to talk about!
Good luck at marby tappy
But i dont think you understand what being captain of a football club means . Maybe you should have a real good think about it if your ever asked in the future ,Its not something you exept & then just throw away thats where the loyality comes into play , players & supporters find it hard to understand why a captain just walks out for no reason even if you are a good bloke !

Re: Western Region Football League team

I think Yarraville will struggle.

Apparently spent about $45K last year and have decided to cut that to around $40K or even less for 2008.

I can't see how they can compete with sides if you're going to spend half of the budgets clubs around the same ladder position will.

Rocky & Keogh are gone as most people already know - not sure if they've found a suitable candidate yet but with a budget that small it would be a terrific effort to stay up.

Re: Western Region Football League team

I had a lengthy conversation with Shannon after the League B&F, and to me, he was a genuine bloke. Very approachable and honest.

We all know that money has ruined football. At ALL levels of the game. If Shannon can get good money playing footy, then good luck to him. At the end of the day, he will only be able to do it for so long, and whilst he is still able to do it, why shouldn't he ? Very few local footballers are "loyal" these days. With rising interest rates, new workplace reforms and the cost of living, football has become more of a second income to many, as opposed to a social event. Its not the fault of the individual that he seeks the extra coin. Blame society.

A little self-righteous I know, but the truth none the less.

Could not agree more, for somebody to walk into a club and be named captain before pulling on the clubs jumper is a real suprising one, just proves what can happen if you hold hands with the coach. Don't get me wrong being signed as a Capt. / Coach would be a different story. But a bloke with a disloyal back ground is a far cry from say a Judd.

Shows how much u know pal the guy played at Tulla for 3 years ( i should know as i played alongside him for 2 of em) from 2002-2004 then Keilor Park from 2005-2006 then Albion this year.
My maths maybe ****ed but i add that up to 3 clubs in 6. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I THOUGHT NOT
He did try and go to Melton South aswell but was contracted at Kelior Park, tried to leave after a normal one year stint. Loyalty number 1.

Re: Western Region Football League team

Not much news out of sunshine. Had a meeting on sunday about the year... introduced the new coaches and so on. Foley is back as an assistant coach, and Grant Setterfield is also on board as the new 2s coach... also daniel fraser has been signed as assistant coach, should be a handy pick up, knows his stuff. Also signed Mentha for another year, and another fella from south warnambool... not sure who else we are chasing, have heard a few guys from Terang or down that way. Any news from other clubs? Have heard Whittmar is staying on at Colts for another year, he will be a new recruit after not playing much footy this year.

Interesting view, unfortunately can't argue with that. It's a shame. What are everyone elses views?

Not sure if the reduced budget will make a difference when you think that the 2007 budget was covering two senior coaches, 2008 will only need to cover one.

However the lack of whispers regarding recruits is worrying. There has been no noise from anyone, even on bigfooty, regarding happenings to and from the Yarra camp. I think it's universally agreed that Yarra were below the required standard last season so a heavy recruiting policy was needed for 2008. Will be a shame if the search for some key recruits got lost in the changing of the coaches.

I hope they spend a hundred bucks on tracky dacks.......i know my tired old body won't drag me around for too much longer so i may be warming some pine!!!

Re: Western Region Football League team

Its funny how people talk about each teams budgets without really knowing what they really spend, and also saying that if you have a low budget then you will go no where but there are ways around needing a big budget. Take the amatuers for instance most if not all players don't get paid but a generally setup with a great job opportunity to make the additional money that they may make else where. I guess maybe even Port Colts are a good example as they appear to be able to help players get employment and not pay as much as Hoppers yet are the most successful club in the last Decade. This is where a great commitee comes into play and hopefully this is one Yarra have just instated with a good job connections in many industries. Refer to website YSeagles.com for further info about job opportunites.

i was one who said he should never of been captain in the 1st place captaincy is something you earn not a tool you use to land a player at your club, having said that it's not his fault if the club devalues the role that much they hand it over to the new recruit just to get his signature

Pledged his loyalty to the club is what I heard, and he did - lasted one year! What an average. Don't hold your breathe Marby. Just thankful my club has never approached him, Mercinary sell out.

Tappy should never have been captain in his first year at Albion any way. The captaincy is something you should have to earn at a footy club. not saying that Tappy is not good enough to be captain but i dont think anyone should walk in to a club first year and be captain!

Yeh believe thats him. Apparently played 300 games or something like that at Deer Park. But i dont know too much about him. Pretty sure he wont be bringing any Deer Park players with him.... dont know there team too well but im not sure if many would play Division 1 seniors. Also dont reckon players would leave there, where they could be on money, to be a fringe or 2's player.

How's it looking down there at the moment Cabs. Haven't heard much news about recruits from Sunny way, anything to report or just keeping a lid on it. Also have you blokes started training yet?

Had some great duels with Parkside in my day but was always critical of Tocka a soft hang out. Since he has gone to YCW all my queries where answered - Spineless.
