Since everyone is after our blood, wants to see us die or merge (same shit isn't it?), just thought i would post a merged team (completely off the top of my head so add any other north players rooboy/shins).

If we were to merge, which I ensure everyone I would rather not see happen- (i'm just doing this to show the smartasses who repeatedly say that they wanna see the "bulliroos") the consequences of two consistent finals contenders since 94 forming a "superteam" (as would most mergers these days between any teams, unlike the Fitzroy merger in 96).

Would anyone bar essendon stand a chance????
Both of the teams' greatest deficiencies lie in their depth, but we have 'top 6's' arguably as good as anyone in the league.

So here it is -

B : Archer Martyn/Hunter Croft/ Kretiuk

HB: Brown Grant King

C: Stevens West Johnson

HF: Smith/Hudson Carey Abraham

F: Grant Darcy Colbert

R: McKernan Harvey Eagleton

I/C: Anyone of up to 20 players who were consistently playing full seasons of AFL last year with either team.

"We" would have 7 picks out of the first 30 in the national draft (almost a quarter)

The AFL wants to see someone merge therefore give them salary cap consessions, and may even dangle the '5 million dollar carrot" again.

Anyone still wanna see the Western Roos/ North Bulldogs, West Sydney/Tasmanian/Wellington/Southport Bulliroos??

I don't want to see any Vic club fold, I have always donated money to the Dogs, Fitzroy, not that it did any good, also I have given money to the Saints & I will give money to any aother Vic club to try & stop them going under.

When the stupid 'Dawks' Merger was 'on' we were constantly being shown a super 'team' which would 'kick ass'

Yet a mere four years down the track both Melbourne and Hawthorn are looking promising with very few of those 'stars' present. Perhaps Crawford, Schwartz, Neitz, Farmer and Holland etc the only ones

Does anyone have the 'Dawks' team list from 1996 ? I might look at home for it.

even if the 'Dawks' had been successful (Brisbane Lions weren't) the 'oldies' would have kept places and rebuilding would have been slowed down

My point ?

Never justify a merger on team strength. It's pointless.

And the AFL7 themselves are cool on mergers at the moment. Why ? They're so committed to fixturing at new/improved stadiums they need every game they can get. Merging two teams would mean less games to go around

Okay, here's my team. There's a natural bias towards North players (13 to 9), but that's only because I see more of them than the Doggies. And anyway, it's an 9-9 split on the starting 18. Anyway, here's my team:

B: G. Archer - K. Hunter - M. Croft
HB: B.Pickett - J. McCartney - N. Brown
C: D. King - A. Stevens - R. Smith
HF: N. Eagleton - C. Grant - L. Colbert
F: J. McLaren - W. Carey - B. Harvey
Foll: L. Darcy - S. West - B. Johnson
Inter: C. McKernan - J. Blakey - A. Lange - J. Sinclair

Luke Darcy to start in the ruck ahead of McKernan simply because Darcy's 2000 form was way better than McKernan. Hunter at full back ahead of Martyn because our Mick is on the wrong side of 30. McCartney at CHB, Grant at CHF, and Carey at FF...okay, Carey's body couldn't take any more punishment at CHF, so over to FF he goes. Grant is a superb player and has proved that he can play in that part of the ground. McCartney is still one of the most underrated CHBs in the league and does the job week in week out.

Carey gets the captaincy, Grant the VC, and McCartney and Scott West are co-deputy-vice-captains. Pagan is the coach and Wallace (if he stayed around) would take care of tactics.

It's a good side on paper, but they would need at least a season together to gell properly as a *team*.

On the subject of mergers, North and the Doggies would be a good mix because both clubs have similar cultures, supporter bases, and in the last few years, have been aggressive innovators. Despite this, I hope we stay as separate clubs for many years to come. Pessimistic has made some very valid points on the folly of merging for the wrong reasons.

A Kangaroos vs Bulldogs Grand Final in 2001? I'd like to see that!!!!

How about a 'current' Dawks merger
This is equally as irrelevant as both the demons and hawks are looking good on field and off

Backs McCabe - Hay - Rawlings
HB Graham - Croad - Harford
Centre Crawford - Yze - Johnstone
HF Schwartz - Holland - Lord
Forward Nietz - Thompson - Farmer

Ruck - White - Woewodin - Chick

Leans slightly to Hawks but it's really Hawks key position power fed by Deamons midfield

ut these arguments are academic. You might as well ask which tams would win a flag if they added buckley to the team (his talent not his attitude)

How about a combined West Coast-Freo side...try this:

B: Who cares? - Who cares? - Who cares?
HB: Who cares? - Who cares? - Who cares?
C: Who cares? - Peter Bell - Who cares?
HF: Who cares? - Who cares? - Who cares?
F: Who cares? - Who cares? - Who cares?
Foll: Who cares? - Who cares? - Who cares?
Inter: Who cares? - Who cares? - Who cares? - Who cares?
