Let's face it, we were pathetic today.

Got no backup to Simmo in the ruck, and none to Richo up forward. Trent Nobel is a dud.

We didn't attack the ball as ferociously as the Cats did.

Our backline is poor. How we got rid of AK is a total mystery.

We do not have a weights room. Almost every other team is physically stronger than us. We've got no muscle and no enforcers. Most of our players are a pack of pansy's.

We have been embarrassed by not picking Franklin. He is set to be the next superstar of the afl, and instead we got fumbling Tambling. Not as bad as choosing Fiora rather than Pavlich, but still bad enough.

The only good sign was the form of Polak, but we're unlikely to play finals this year...again.

Just wait for the season for your judgements. Its true we are deficient but look at some of the positives. Howat, Foley, Polak and Deledio.

No ******** we still have problems, we arent the bloody WCE are we? Untill we are up the top, we have problems with our team

we have a weight room but you got to have players who want to use it

the thing i dont understand is we are still way off finals but we get kingsley obviously the coaches thing we are closer than what reality is telling them

i would take a crap 2007 if our kids were learning but our best 22 is still an experienced side and thats what is pretty worrying

If you are going to bag the Tambling over Franklin thing then you should also be bagging Deledio. Griffen is so much better than him its funny.

Griffen is a gun, but Deledio is very good too. Either player is a good pick.

Well i disagree! We have Kingsley and Schulz to play as back up fowards for richo we just didn't see that today. For Simmonds we have Knobel, he is a crap player but a good tap ruckman we won most of the centre clearances today.

Guys dont under rate Tambling he will come good!

No thats funny!! Deledio has outperformed griffen in both season so far. As evident by the fact he won the rising star, and the fact that lids averaged more possies per game while being tagged last year.

If we have to rely on KK, Schulz and Nobel to win us games we are truly stuffed.

we have too many duds in the team - Moore, Nobel, Gaspar, White, Krak, Tambling.

Having KK and Schulz as back up fowards to richo is not that bad, it is also good that we have other goal kickers such as petts and brownie.

I disagree , I think the Tigers are still going to go places this year. gee you had most of your big guns out plus loosing Richo during the match sure didnt help.
Have faith guys, I am saying this because I am a cat suporter who also has a Richmond membership this year. and honestly think the tigers are going to be special. they will learn from this.

wow, more possessions.
Griffen is and will be a better player than Deledio unless he really pulls his finger out and learns to chase and tackle and kick instead of going for the easy option actually try.

No height. No chance. That's how it worked out.

But our midfield gets smashed anyway.

Our main problem is lack of defensive pressure both up forward and in the midfield. Geelong wouldnt have needed a tall forward line to smash us today, players had so much time, they could have hit anyone up on a lead. It happened several times last year, for some reason our entire team decides not to run or tackle.

Then there is the clearances, we won quite a few early, but when we do they are just a quick kick forward and they usually come back with interest. When the opposition gets on top in the clearances they break through us and setup easy goals.

I know it was only a practice match and we didnt really show up today, but it happened several times last year and its disappointing to see it happen first up this time around.

Deledio must be played more on the ball, he is one of the few gifted players we have, i dont care if he is struggling, leave him in there, he has to learn.

I agree 100%
He is not going to be worth his no.1 draft pick playing HB getting easy possessions he needs to play midfield.

******** l hate our supporters, nothing but a whinging pack of homo's. Its the first hit out in a pre-season game - Feb 25 - and already have a look at you.

Grow up and take it for what it was, a game getting the cob-webs out. I couldnt give a ******** if we had've got done by 200 points, its about preparation for Round one, not a rubbish competition that no one really takes seriously.

Lets not lose sight of the fact that we won a wooden spoon only 44 games ago, yet we still bag our side for losing to a full strength (certain top 4 side) in a practice match.

Get a life.

I'm not panicking its only the first match of the year and it was clear from the outset we were not in it to win it. Terry made wholesale changes every quarter - I counted 28 in the second term so it was obvious he was just giving everyone a run.....

In saying that, I was extremely dissapointed in the young guys like Deledio, Tambling, Hartigan etc not wanting and demanding the ball, these blokes should want it and take em on more than they did, it should be instructed by the coaching staff and encouraged for them to do it. We have an extremely young team they should be given the confidence to take em all on.

Two other points is our tackling and pressure has got to be the worst in the league, this is the main area we need to improve on if we are going to be anything near a finals team. Im sick of us not being able to lay a tackle and create pressure exactly what Geelongs most impressive points from today was. Their ability to tackle and harrass and sheperd and work for eachother was a thousand times better than ours.

Watching our reserves.. Jack Riewolt should be in the seniors as soon as possible the kid has presence about him and in a senior team will be a damaging third tall to begin with, then a forward gun in the future I have no doubts, by adding Schultz and Riewolt to our forward line, Paddy Bowden and Kane Johnson to our midfield running and Simmonds and Pattison to our structure and we'll be a much better outfit.....Also Travis Casserley will be a guy to watch brilliant skills, great running ability should be in our senior team also, the time is now with the youngsters play them all they have all had two or 3 years in the system now, they are the future, no more tivendales, knobels, hydes, jackson, krakouer etc..... my round one team:

B: Joel Bowden Darren Gaspar Chris Newman
HB: Andrew Raines Graham Polak Travis Casserley
C: Brett Deledio Dean Polo Richard Tambling
HF: Kayne Pettifer Matthew Richardson Patrick Bowden
F: Nathan Brown Jay Schultz Jack Riewolt
R: Troy Simmonds Nathan Foley Kane Johnson
INT: Danny Meyer Adam Pattison Shane Tuck Cameron Howat.

Run, run, run!

God blind me... if Travis Casserley makes our starting 18 in round one, l'll smack my bitch up. Ditto Reiwoldt.

Yes we have issues but the game was more about seeing where we are at. We now have 5 weeks to fine tune things and get set for the Blues. If you like, without looking up results, tell me the 8 winners of the first round of the NAB cup last year. I bet you get the Cats and Crows as they played in the GF but the other 6 I doubt you remember another 2. Thats the thing NAB means little come the real season sure it is good to win games but if I recall right the Swans would have won about 3 Pre Season games in the last 3 years. Hell I remember we beat them last year and 2 months later they belted up by 100 so did the Dogs after we beat them by 12 goals 2 weeks before the season proper.

We were missing names like PB, Johnson, Simmo, KK, Schulz, Thursfield, who would replace guys like White, Jackson, Moore, Hartigan, Hughes in our best side. February champions means little in the scheme of things but what today showed Wallace is where we stand and what he and the coaches need to work on in the next 5 weeks. I still think we can make the 8 but today shows we are going to need our best players on the park for most of the year to do it.

Run, run, run!

No thank you imo,

Bowden shouldnt be in the back pocket,

Casserley shouldnt be in the team, give Edwards a game ahead of Casserly.

Dont think Riewoldt is ready yet, Hughes is closer.

Bring in Thursfield ASAP for Gaspar.

Tuck on the field.

One tall man short I think Kingsley for Meyer.

Overall the forward half+rucks is a nice mix though.

damn straight robbie matera ;)
i think terry took a similar viewpoint. i really dont think plough takes the nab cup at all seriously and rightly so, his eyes are firmly set on round one.

Ahhh ha! You;re onto me... l need to have a few quiet words to Rostertalk over the PM. He's ruined my cover.

It amuses how negative our supporters are. I woke this morning to check the results and just shrugged my shoulders. Couldnt give a rats fat clacker about losing this game.

Doubt Simmo will play ruck first up most likely to line up on the pine
JB should be on the HBF Raines in the BP and Polo on wing playing as a tagger in the middle
Casserly out and Riewoldt may just sneak in but doubtful.
Knobel will play as the first ruck against the Blues after all he is going up against the combo of Cloke/Ackland cancels each other out none of them will rack up huge possies but Knobel should get the advantage in hitouts.
Schulz should be given every chance to cement a spot first up and get some consistent game time
Deledio should be thrown in the middle and told to work hard as possible just keep running
PB should be used as a lead up forward along with Schulz and Pettifer create space behind for Richo and Brown to work in.

Cant disagree with this, reckon your side is very similar to what mine would be. Only changes would be that if Simmo is fit, he will start... Patrick Bowden will be in the backline and (unfortunately) Tivendale will be playing.
