Aww what a match! I was on the edge of my seat. A couple of controversial moments but it's the result that counts. With only a couple of minutes to go, Amon Buchanon had a shot at goal that looked like it was going to bounce straight through for a goal and win the match.
But no, the ball took an awkward bounce and grazed the post. Boy, I nearly had a heart attack. From the side view, it looked like it had gone in for a goal. But the goal umpire signalled a behind and my heart was saved.
The siren went a minute or 2 later signalling a 74-73 victory against the Swannies at the SCG.

Earlier in the final quarter, Bomber Adam Mcphee snapped from the forward pocket. He carried the ball over the boundary line. It should have been called out of bounds. But it wasn't and Mark McVeigh went on to kick an awesome goal that went through for a goal.

Another controversial moment was on the 3 quarter time siren. Scotty Lucas had a shot from 55. He failed to make the distance, but Peter "Spider" Everitt fisted the ball through for a behind, meaning that the Bombers scored a point. He could have easily marked the ball, and the game would have more than likely ended up a draw.

Boy was I excited that we won, and so were the players. The song was sung with pride and a lot of them were jumping around like a kangaroo.

Bring on the Eagles!

*clap, clap, clap*

for some reason, the bombers play well when i'm full of negativity in the lead-up!!

great win.

That was the happiest i have seen Sheeds after a match for a very very long time.

Could not of been happier with the TEAMS endeaver and committment to make every contest exactly that, a contest.

I feel a lot prouder of OUR team than i have for a long time after tonight.

Not because we won, but HOW we won.

Guts, hardness at the ball and player and refusing to allow easy posessions to the Swans.

Definately.

Our work rate was the best I've seen it this season. In the 3rd quarter when it was a grind we didn't let it drop and hung in there without giving them anything. Great effort by the boys.

Revenge for 96!!!

Awesome win. Still frustrates me how well we can play in patches. Oh well at least we are being a little bit more consistent now with 3 wins in a row.

Still can't but believe our poor conversion. We went inside 50 in that 3rd qrt 17 times and only managed 5 points.

Can't complain to much, rather win by 1 point then 100pts.

Thanks, The Dustbin, Sir James, Mal, Jobe and Paddy.:thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :D :D :D

Late into the match, i was thinking, "i bet carmer is going to come back to haunt us for what happened last week", good thing it didn't, stoked with the win! Mal and Paddy, give yourselves a pat on the back.....sensational in defence!

I'd like to see Hislop or Lonergan get a game next week, Houli could perhaps have a break and make way for one of them.

Hats off to the coaching staff I reckon. Sydney crowd absolute disgrace, James Hird being booed when he had the ball midway through the final term. Hird irreplacable, but doesn't the bloke named Ryder continue to impress. Can we please give McVeigh or McPhee a regular spot on the ball.

Yeah, what was with that? Hird played fantastically all night. The only thing I can think of was because of those frees he got when Goodes decked him twice.

A Fantastic Win! The Swans have been red hot the last 2 weeks but i thought we played like the way they do tonight. We played on our terms not there's. The best game Mal has played for us no question! ...And Paddy well he will be our new fullback when Dustin calls it a day. He beat O'Loughlin tonight. Personally i think we won every position on the ground.Hille was good in the ruck and Laycock was serviceable Le'ts back it up again next week!

Very proud Essendon fan tonight...i am always but the win was special..

great win by the boys. they just never gave up. i was sitting there waiting for them to fall over and to their credit they have learnt how to win.

Off topic a bit, but how much more popular has this board got lately ? I remember after a match there used to be about 3 unread threads with about 20 posts total. Now it takes me a good half hour to trawl through it. All good though :D

Excellent pressure throughout by our boys! :thumbsu:

Wouldnt mind seeing a stat commonly collated in tennis...forced and unforced errors.

hey guys

well done on the win
to be honest we didn't deserve to pinch it (even though i would have taken it) and i'm sick of everyone whinging about the umps etc...

the bottom line is that if buchanan's shot had have dribbled through we would have won and it would have all been forgotten

and damn u mark bolton  somehow he is retained on the list to play a couple of good games against us

anyways do us all a favour and destroy the eagles on friday night :)

great win. one of the best i've seen for a while by us. syd v ess, is allways close at the scg and tonight proved no different.

the mcphee incident wasn't the boundary umpires fault he was blind sighted, although it was out.
we shouldn't of let it get that close tho, as we really couldn't shut everything down at the end there. great win tho, and not great sportsmanship by the swanny fans, but it was interesting to see sheedy's positive comments about there passion for the game (syd supporters that is).

I could barely look at the TV during the last few mintues.

Even when we got to 14 points ahead I knew it wasn't over,it never is with Essendon!! When the Swannies pegged a couple back I was certain that my nightmare was about to come true but thank god we got the win.

It's great that after last season we've managed to pull out a win in tight games the last two weeks. Will do wonders for the team's morale. Losing in the tight ones as we did early last season just seems to sap everyone of their confidence and energy and subsequently games become harder and harder to win.

Top win,I'm still pumped at 5:30 the next morning!! :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

That's one to put down in your record books, boys! The Sydney crowd were a sack full of crap, Roos was going absolutely nuts in the box, and Sheeds is a happy man! Another stellar effort by Jimmy Hird, and Paddy Ryder is continuing to impress the hell out of me. And one bloke in particular is just magnificent; Mark BOLTON. Yeah, I know, sorry, but I met him one day when I was 10, and since then he's just been a great asset to the club; Two goals and he kicked (pardon the pun) our team into overdrive! Great work to all the boys!

SEE THE BOMBERS FLY UP!

Now that's nice, good change because last night the Swans supporters were a little... Eh. Feral. Thanks mate, and GO THE DONS!

one of the best wins ive seen in a long time! what a fantastic, gutsy win...

our defense was in sparkling form....dustin was in his finest form but probably more suprisinly mal michael really stood up!!!! he was great....

seeing some players really step up in the final term was inspirational - brett stanton take a bow...well held all match by mcveigh...when it counted gave us plenty of forward 50 entries and drive straight up the guts!!!! superb player...

cudos to the good mcveigh, sir jimbop, hille and mcphee...

p.s whats with lloyd kicking? i noticed it even at the start of the year...seems a bit off, not as confident...has def lost some accuracy...had my heart in mouth when he was lining up at a crucial stage in the last...
