What about this then...

His only kick in the first half was a set shot from 25m out right in front that nearly went out on the full!

Apparently he fired up in the last quarter and worked hard to get Souths over the line. Didn't see it myself - just going by reports.

The difference between pick 5 and 7 is nothing.

The only players who i would trade for such an upgrade, are the ones likely to be delisted this year.

Lets not be blinded by the WA youngsters. Morton, Masten, Palmar weren't the only players in the 22 who won WA the cup.

Plenty of talent throughout all of Australia.

The upgrade is only part of the proposed trade, so I don't quite see what you are saying. Murphy is not worth a first rounder , certainly not a high one, so if he is part of any trade equation, getting a promotion in the first round to ensure our best possible selection seems a good proposition. I would be very surprised if Bulldogs don't draft a tall with their first pick so for them the sacrifice will be small.

By the way, more than happy with some of the other mids that are touted as being in the top seven picks, so if the Bulldogs don't want to trade and we get say Ebert instead of Palmer, no problems. But for me there is some value in recruiting a local boy.

Trading Hasleby is a ridiculous suggestion unless it is what he wants.

Agree on all points bar this one.

I used to think that drafting local lads was inherently a good idea.

Recent history suggests to me that perhaps a move interstate is beneficial for the development of certain young highly-touted prospects.

Not necessarily in all cases, but certainly for some of the more cocky youngsters, it presents itself as a good learning curve.

Not sure how this relates to Palmer, Masten or Morton, but I guess I'm just saying that, like you, I'd be happy with either of the better midfield prospects regardless of their state of origin.

Would you trade Ryan Murphy and pick 7 (assuming you lose to Port this week) for our pick 5 (we're certain to lose to North)?

With Kreuzer and Cotchin almost certain to go top 4, one of Palmer, Masten or Morton are certain to be available at 5.

We need big kids and at least one of Henderson or McEvoy is guaranteed to be available at 7.

Although after watching Murphy's effort for South last night on ABC2 ...
No if you have us pick 5 and a later draft pick then yes

I know stats don't tell it all, and Hase has been a tad inconsistent this year, but his overall averages still show up pretty well - even considering his "down days". I guess that shows that when he's good - he's bloody good! At our club he is:
1st in disposals / game
4th in tackles
1st in first possessions
1st in clearances
6th in inside 50s
3rd in contested possessions
6th in long kicks
1st in handballs

He's the best we've got in the guts... and to trade him, especially when we may lose Bell, would not be a sensible move IMO. What we need to do is get someone young in to support Hase in the middle - not trade him and get someone else in "instead of". Hopefully the club and Hase can reach some middle ground fairly soon. :thumbsu:

Suggestions of trading Hasleby are ridiculous unless we get a ready made midfielder for him. Why the f*** would we trade to win a flag in 2006 then lose Hasleby, Longmuir and Bell 12 months later? It would be insane!

Do the Freo supporters who are suggesting we trade Hasleby for a draft pick support the Tarant deal? If you do then you are wallies!!

Shit deal, bugger off!

You might be on to something there.

A youngster who is drafted to a new city where they don't know anybody doesn't really have any distractions to stop them from knuckling down and being as professional as expected. And until they get to know people their socialising will mainly be done with fellow players who have to exercise the same discipline as them.

Whereas a Perth kid drafted will still be living in their comfort zone. Still hanging out with all their mates from high school who will be getting up to all sorts of mischief. And, deliberately or not, there's probably a little peer pressure from those mates who don't really understand how disciplined an AFL player needs to be to get the maximum out of themselves.

I remember Daniel Wells was on record saying he was keen to be drafted to Victoria because that was the Mecca of football. But I always read between the lines that he was keen to escape the pressures and distractions of family and friends in order to concentrate on his footy.

And I really don't think we have to worry about the go home factor anymore. We lost a few when we were an incompetent bush league club training out of a shed, but since we've lifted to match the facilities and professionalism expected of an AFL club (and surpassed many of them) all our interstate recruits seem very happy here. Why wouldn't they? With Perth's weather and beaches it's a pretty attractive place for a footballer to live.
