Complacency.

We're three rounds into a 22 game H&A season. A massive way to go and we certainly have our faults, such as coughing up a 28 point lead against the Swans last week.

Supporters need to just enjoy the ride that this year is going to be and no doubt it is going to get bumpy at times. We don't need any added expectations at this stage in our development. Just go with the flow for now.

Allowing teams too much space in our forward line which results in rebounds,

Midfield numbers with players behind the play to stop a run

Moving from half back to half forward at times

Experience.

We tend to break down at times when moving the ball from half back/wing and across half forward. Is often only when we have one of Hurley, Ryder, Hille, Bellchambers forward.

We also tend to let opposition teams easy goals when they get through the 'press'. Is a risk we run playing this game plan but one we are managing to perfection.

We look so composed coming out of defence this year after the debacle that was EFC last year and that horrible 'run n gun' game style last year.

Definitely moving the ball quickly and efficiently by foot out of defense when the pressure's on.

Filling the holes around stoppages in dangerous positions where cherry-pickers like criminal krakouer can get easy goals.

We're hugely improved in defensive pressure though, obviously.

Worried about our short term defensive depth at the moment. With Pears out for a while, and Myers for a couple of weeks, if we lose Hooker or Fletcher we're in a little bit of trouble in man on man situations. Yes, Hurley/Ryder can play back, but they're playing so well in the forward half that it'd be a massive lost if either have to go back.

Undoubtedly, the main weakness still remains in the centre of the ground.

The gameplan relies heavily on your ability to win the ball out of the centre first before locking it into your forward line.

We saw what happened when we were thumped by Sydney in contested ball as well as clearances.

As good as Lonergan and Howlett have been, it will be interesting to see how/if they step up against big bodied midfielders such as Judd and the Collingwood duo of Swan and Pendlebury. Personally, there is still quite a gulf in class there.

And it won't be a quick fix either. It'll take some good drafting to get the players that we need to play in these positions.

If there's any area of the ground we could get exposed in, the clearances will be it.

Im probably nitpicking but our inability to switch the play at various times could be worked on.

Yesterday there was about 3-4 times where we could of brought it over the free side and set up with our run and carry but we elected to play it on the congested side. Maybe its just me but that something that could be improved

Weaknesses

- Midfield strength, whilst doing well now, will they still be doing the job in 2 months time?
- Crumber, do we have one? (this is one area I hope we adress in the next draft)
- CHF, there is a weakness between Hurley at FF and the CHF, Crameri is more your leadup 3rd tall.

i agree with macca - my main worry is being able to carry a full effort through the whole game, as evidenced by last night's q4. it's possible hirdy told them to cool down a little, but that's not a habit we should be getting into, especially when it was an endemic problem last year.

Mate,
"big bodied" and "Pinhead Pendlebury" don't belong in the same sentence.
He's a skinny sheepdog player with freakish skills and no fear.
yeh hes done some bicep curls to impress the ladies but no way near as big bodied as Swan and Judd.

ON THE TOPIC, i believe our main weakness is in fitness with the new sub rule. we've looked sluggish in the last quarter in all games this year and might struggle to run out a game with the same effort as the first 3 quarters. Yes, the majority of other teams look like this too - however im yet to see it with Collingwood. eeek

Yeah, that's a point.. With the sub rule, the fittest teams will rise to the top at the end of each game..
Unfortunately fitness is something that takes a long time to build up, but we did a lot of fitness work at the start of the season, I'm pretty sure.. As much as could be done anyway.
