Haven't played a tennis game since Virtual Tennis 2 on the PS2. Are the modern ones good?

Yes and no, the two main (Tiebreak Tennis by Big Ant and Top Spin) that I rotate with have good and bad points.

Big Ants effort is much better than their AO Tennis games but again like other games they are involved with.... there's a bit of jankiness with controls (which imo they put behind as user input control rather than engine/mechanics.. eg: go to hit a ball at waist height.... nothing happens, except ball hitting the players legs).

Top Spins shot system is confusing at first but once it clicks... it plays well imo. Funnily enough I was useless at it but got better AFTER having played Tiebreak Tennis. People mocked the Top Spin graphics - rightfully so as it looks average on console, but it's a far better looking game (non blurry etc) on pc... but yes many players don't resemble their real selves.

I’d say wait for a sale. At full price ($90), the 10-15 hour story is very short.
It is fun playing single player, playing online especially with people you know makes it 10 x better.

I’d probs say wait til it goes on sale before buying to play single player
I would wait for a sale, unless you're a huge series fan.
Thanks gents - never played it or anything made by them before, but damn it looks good.

Is there much replay value once completed?

Yeah Top Spin is very solid.

There is collectables you can get if you like going for trophies/achievements.

IMO, Mafia Old Country doesn’t match the quality of the first two Mafia games especially. But the story was still solid enough to have replay value.

I would definitely suggest again to wait for a sale since it is very short.

Every time you play the maps the suspect and bombs (if an objective) will change locations, also playing through the 3 different difficulties will change the experience of the map.

I’d say a solid 6 months at the very least you’d get out of it unless you grind it daily lol

Handy to know, thanks sir.

Casual gamer (2 young kids so time is very limited). I mainly just play FIFA and then will occasionally play somehting else to mix it up. Granted GTA VI is coming in May so that will also take a lot of time.

Just collectables, some of which are cool to learn about the world, but other things are just there to make you earn trophies.

I can't see myself playing through the story again either.

Mafia 3.

The story would be a lot more enjoyable if the developer didn’t crap out hours upon hours of copy and paste rackets. The game would definitely work better if it wasn’t open world and kept the same formula as the other ones.

The story, setting, soundtrack and character development were all top notch but the open world, hours upon hours of copy and paste rackets make it really tedious and boring.

Would have been the best in the series if it kept the same linear, chapter-by-chapter formula used in I & II.

Doom: The Dark Ages

I’ve never played a Doom game so this being a prequel works for me. I feel like there’s literally no story or character development to it, it’s just mindless slaying of demons, and that Doom is all about gameplay and not story, which I don’t mind because the gameplay is really fun.

I finally played Resident Evil 7: Biohazard because I had time to play something out of my backlog…and I fell in love!

The game was so scary that it genuinely gave me a nightmare about Jack Baker chasing me around the house!

I can’t believe I slept on it for so long, it’s now one of my favourite games of all time and replaced The Evil Within 2 as my 2017 Game of the Year.

PlayStation Plus just dropped the PS2 version of Deus Ex - my god what a nostalgic trip.

I built my first PC nearly 25 years ago to play the original (several times) and haven't played it in since.
Still fun.
That’s a fantastic series.
Underrated and doesn’t get spoken about. Love the investigations.

Deus Ex Human Revolution was fun.
Mankind Divided haven’t played enough of

Probably a legacy of its origins as an OG Xbox port, but Invisible War runs like a dog on my brand new PC. Needs the Visible mod to even load beyond the intro, and tweaks to the mod settings too for it to work.

And even then the loading times are atrocious and it crashes without fail when I quit to desktop.

Will nevertheless persevere after knocking off the original and I have the more modern ones to look forward to.

Street Fighter 6 on Switch 2 the arcade style modes with a few twists are good. Completely hate alternate attires etc are hidden behind pay to win style. The world tour mode completely sucks, not a fan of the open world style with lame cutscenes and terrible background music.

Mario Kart World is great fun , way more enjoyable with over 20 competitors. Have enjoyed the grand prix but like a lot said previously Knock out is the go to, super fun and frustrating at the same time.

beware, gamers. don't buy the bazaar (now on steam after the devs said they didn't want it on steam). it's really bad and will invariably be made F2P on steam within a few months.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is #1 on my remaster wishlist. Would be so good to play that with updates graphics

Balatro because that's obviously what you do the day you install a 5090.

The first game I played on my new pc was the TMNT Collection.... hardly going to push the system to breaking point :p. Chose it for the small installation size. Gradually moved up to Rocket League (which will be a constant rotation).

Even though it's old I always like running GTA V on new systems - it's my "Crysis" style benchmark measurer lol.

--------

actually played over the last day...

Top Spin 2K25

Developed different tactics to take on those with "weaker player stats" that still try to aggressive shot me into oblivion. Which can result in wrong footing them and or forcing them to hit the wrong shot back to me to put away.

Dark Souls 3

Saves don't carry over on the cloud, so I've started a new character on my new pc (could have just copied the save file from laptop to pc, but got lazy sooooo temporary fresh start it is lol).

Have to say that it's fun tackling the game again as a weaker character..... yet having the "smarts" of the enemy patterns learned. Thus being able to still win..... it just takes a few extra hits while on a lower level.

MK 11 - started playing this again more frequently across console and pc.

MK 1 - Forcing myself to play it semi more often. Don't think I got value for money from the original release (pre ordering the deluxe edition way before release, getting through the story and not spending a lot of time playing online afterward). Won't be doing that again...... That said the MK Legacy Collection will be a day 1 purchase lol.

"I'm going to replay so many of my games"

only plays the staples which are also among the least demanding

I'm just shy of 2500 hours in Death Stranding and it is what I am playing at the moment.
