Seems like you might be familiar with his newer stuff? We have two free albums to get from the offer with the Bowie exhibition. Choices are only from the following more recent releases:
The Next Day
Heathen
A Reality Tour
Earthling
Hours
Outside
Reality
Any suggestions on which two might be good?
Heathen - dark it is and not for everyone but Bowie does dark better than most, I love the arrangements and it was his first album back with producer Tony Visconti for ages. If you don't like the dark, moody stuff then swap this out for
Reality or the live set IMO.
The Next Day - I love it and it was widely thought to be his best work since at least
Scary Monsters (1980), it's got some great grooves, some light moments and some sleazy ones (like "Dirty Boys") and really has everything a Bowie fan could want from him.
The rest I'd rank as follows:
Reality (some great songs and some that sound a little underdone)
Hours (one of his most mainstream, radio friendly albums but his singing on this is beautiful)
A Reality Tour (for a live album it is very well produced, well played by his ripping band - the version of "Under Pressure" with his bassist Gail Ann Dorsey is brilliant - but some of his older classic material loses it's mystique and there are some deep cuts here that are clearly below his best work. It is a 2CD pack though so the most bang for your no bucks.
Outside - solid album but a lot to get through and it's a concept album that I think was originally intended to be developed into a film. I don't know if it was the overall concept for maybe the material isn't as strong as his best but I still can't fall in love with this one - lots to take in.
Earthling - purely a drum&bass album, far from his best but it has it's moments like "I'm Afraid Of Americans," there's a killer version of that on
A Reality Tour though.
