Stuck in my mind of late. Mark Olson’s former wife, and not a real discovery since I recall reading about that album two decades ago from my first-ever (or almost) read of Rolling Stone.
Obviously too religious a song for secular radio to risk playing, but otherwise could certainly have been a hit, although some writers have said – not without truth – that Victoria’s voice was a predecessor to Joanna Newsom’s. She never recorded an album with the stark production of The Milk-Eyed Mender or Ys for an accurate comparison, but some of her quirky nature-based lyrics are a little like Newsom (and I’m a big fan of Joanna).
This song has Mike Mills of R.E.M. and Sly Stone’s sister and former bandmate Rose Stone signing in the chorus.
