I bought this album in 1975. I bought it because I thought it was a new Jeff Beck album. I was already a great fan of Blow By Blow. This album, however, was by Joe Beck, on guitar and David Sanborn, on alto sax . It was a fortunate accident and I was lucky to have bought one of the great fusion jazz albums of the 70's. Beck though I wasn't aware of, had been around a while playing and recording with Esther Phillips , Miles Davis, James Brown, Paul Simon, Frank Sinatra, and Gil Evans. Sanborn was at the beginning of his career. I'd never heard of either at that time but have listened to and seen their names crop up on countless albums since then.
A trio of greats who all died far too young.
Stevie Ray Vaughn, Paul Butterfield and Albert King. Joined at the very end by B.B. King. Butterfield doesn't even get introduced but was a truly great and under appreciated harp player and singer.
Butterfield died 3 weeks after this session of a drug overdose. 3 years later it was Stevie Ray in a helicopter crash and 5 years later Albert died of a heart attack.
