SBS has shown a 10 episode documentary entitled ‘The Vietnam War’.
A ‘warts and all’ of a war which started with the French in 1945 and ended with the Communists overrunning the south and the capital Saigon in 1975.
Plenty of footage as this was known as the TV War. Plenty of commentary from the participants. Not all participants (which is a weakness).
The US (and allies) were totally out of its depth in pursuit of a flawed foreign policy. The carnage caused to Vietnam and the bordering countries of Laos and Cambodia unforgivable.
As a child of this time it rekindled many memories that are truly painful.
