All the best to him, I feel he had run his race at Essendon. A new club is what was best for both parties, he was a fantastic clubman and a very handy player when he's on. The fact we got anything for him is a massive bonus considering he was a free agent.

Just don't dive against us Gus, or we'll be real mad.

I think it's a great return for us considering he could've gone for nothing under FA. I know what you mean and think that had Port finished higher on the ladder then 2nd rd may've been an option but it's a win for us, win for Gus and win for Port. We get something, Gus gets 4 years on good coin and Port keep their FA compo while offloading a pick they may not've used anyway.

Good luck Gus, there's going to be some devastated 16 year old girls though.

Always sad to see a player leave.

Thought that Gus did particularly well in the roles asked of him.

It became pretty clear early this year that there was going to be issues fitting him in the side. It is quite clear that he is going to struggle to be in best 22 calculations and that we could therefore not justify a big $ long term contract.

It will be interesting to see if he can become a permanent midfield fixture.

Sad to see him go and wish him all the best at Port.

Always came across as very professional, worked hard and was prepared to sacrifice his game to do a job on an opposition forward (which he was very effective at). Seemed to regularly play well in a lot of our memorable upset wins over the last few years too.

Probably a good move for him though. With our propensity to go tall down forward he hasn't had much opportunity to play as a hit up forward which he's quite good at it, and we might see if he can cut it in the midfield as I imagine he'll get more opportunities there at Port.

Hopefully the likes of Nick O, Reimers and Winderlich can stand up/stay fit and fill the void.

Pick 48 is pretty fair. Had Monfries gone to Port via FA they would've lost the 3rd rounder they gained from compensation for Chaplin which would be a low to mid 40.

Im pretty happy we get anything in return, wont surprise me to see if its used for Koby Stevens.
