victoria would have been disapointed with only 231 in the first innings, hodge with brilliant hundred, which turned out to be more than what sa could manage in the first innings
in a dismall display by the sa batman they couldnt even manage 100, all out for 96
matty inness stars again with 6 for 26 from 10 overs

and the vics finish nicely with a 108 run win, at the mcg, greatest stadium in australia
so personally you can take you mm thrashing because bowling a team out for 96 and winning outright is far far better
and matty inness, good old bomber boy on fire, watch out andy bichel and jason gillispie

Unfortunately SA were hopeless in the first dig but take out Hodge and there wasn't much else in the Vic's first innings either.

We did alright in the second though and it was good to see Deitz score a ton on a suspect last day wicket.

Innes bowled well but he's not that quick and didn't move the ball much so I'm not sure how he'd fit into the Aussie side. He's probably better than Bichel but he wouldn't replace McGrath, Lee or Gillespie.

I haven't seen much of Innes and am basing my judgement largely on what I saw on C7 over the weekend. While he bowled well I did't see him move the ball much sideways and he didn't look much above fast medium. He's probably quicker than McGrath but he only bowls in the mid 130kph's.

I'm sure Inness will play for Australia in the near future.

Well I was dissappointed in our 1st innings. Blewy and Boof in consecutive balls was probably the difference in the whole game.

I must admit, as soon as I heard the scores I thought 'estaugh, you bloody idiot, now we're gunna cop it'. But then I love estaugh's passion as well.

I didn't see any of the game cos I don't have C7 and free to air showed zip. So I can't really comment on Innes except to say I had never heard of him before the WI game. So I suspect he has a bit more to do before being considered for the next step.

servo inness (there are two s's in his name everyone) has been around for about 2 and a half seasons, picked up bags against full strength nsw sides but did stuggle ealry last season
apart from that he has been consistant

As I said i'm only going on what I've seen but I'll take more notice in the future. It's unfortunate that the domestic comp doesn't get much coverage and we don't get to see much of the up and coming players.

As for the MCG pitch, they used a drop in pitch for that game as they did in Brisbane and neither of them stood up in my opinion. The Gabba test would have been a disaster if it went five days and the MCG looked like it was playing tricks halfway through day 2. The Colonial pitch seemed ok but it was only used for two days.

Maybe a bit more experimentation required.
