Had no idea ... checks online ... here ya go!

Yes, swans are technically edible, and they have been consumed historically in various cultures. However, they are not commonly eaten today due to their protected status in many countries, including the UK and the US.

In terms of taste, swan meat is often described as rich and gamey, somewhat similar to duck but with a stronger flavor. The texture is typically tender, and the meat can be quite fatty, especially in older birds. However, because swans are not farmed for food, there is little modern culinary information or popular recipes involving swan meat. If you are considering eating swan, it's important to check local laws and regulations regarding hunting and consumption
Swans are the property of the crown. In England anyway

I might get shot down for saying this and maybe it’s just me throwing the baby out with the bathwater with regards to my thoughts on this team right now, but letting Hugh go on a massive contract has intrigued me.

He is a great, ok maybe not great, but above average player with great skills, and that’s something this team definitely needs, but you only have to watch the Giants tonight to see it’s a fast man’s game now. If we somehow could turn his salary into a couple of speedy players it may not end up being the end of the world that we all thought it may be.

I feel sick just typing that.
I want this dickhead banned from BF in 2024 for even thinking this for a passing moment, let alone posting it.

Edit. In all seriousness though some of these takes from earlier on are actually unbelievable reading now. Hard to think it was only 4-5 months ago. Huge turnaround by the whole club.

Throwing an unconventional opinion out there takes some balls on sites like this, knowing some flog is waiting to chuck it back in your face while loudly proclaiming their own purity of thought.

This is the wildest ride I've been on over the decades of supporting this club.

Man I've had some horrible takes this year. I'd hate to see them all. I gave up on this team way too quickly.

A flag beckons for our mob but even if they can't find a way on Saturday they've done themselves and us proud.

Tis all about learnings right. We supporters do learnings too.

I like the idea of seeing the stupid things I've said because based on this year's learnings we can never justify being negative again until it is statistically impossible to make the finals or we at actually eliminated.

What a happy, calm, peaceful, generous, relaxed supportive place this forum will be.

modest hopes just one more win, but like other's have said playing with house money now, they have done themselves proud and provided they are competitive and whole hearted on Saturday and am confident they will be; it has been an epic season and as a supporter of the club can only feel pride.

Afrer the start we had I thought finals would be a pass mark - the fact we are in the grand final and could win it is amazing.

We also seem to have a harder edge to us this year as well.

Yeah. I think that is part of the reason I am enjoying this week so much.
I had a hope that we would make it, even thought we were a chance to win it all if we got our act together.
But now that we are here, we’ll… we’ve got nothing to lose, let’s just enjoy the ride!

Alternatively: If we lose, Sydney wins and that’s ok. Last year, we failed to stop Collingwood! 😫

Have to disagree on the bolded DD, we have plenty to lose, chances at flags are not regular occurrences, you need to take then when they come around.

I'm not ok with the Swans winning it, I'll be very sad if we get beaten on Saturday... I will recover quickly though.

Yeah. Interesting. I really can’t explain how I’m feeling, Malice. It’s just so different from last year. Last year I was stressed and uptight. Excited but terrified. And when we lost, dear God it was awful. Just awful! I was sick to my stomach.

This year, I’m up and about! I’ve been up beat ever since the Giants game. It’s as if a monkey has got off my back. I think we may lose, I think we may win. But either way, I’m just so happy!

🤷‍♀️ Go Lions!

Btw I like how we didn't redo the lid is off type threads after the first two years iirc ... we matured as a board even as they matured as a team 😃

I'm in the opposite camp....

More Lid Off threads!!
More "OPERATION" threads!!

:D

But then, I never ever give up on our guys - unless it becomes mathematically impossible. Which isn't always a good thing, since optimism as a supporter takes you only so far....after which the cold, hard data really hammers home your ignorant disregard for facts :D

You left out the always failing death ride threads!

The losses of Dizzy, Linc, Doedee and Kiddy have been a true punch to the guts, but I absolutely agree with you. We are still a very capable side and our losses this season (save for the GWS 2nd half blowout, which is explainable given the 5-day turnaround after a wet slog-fest) haven't been that bad against pretty decent opposition.

The lapses, 3qt fadeouts, inaccuracy in front of goal and the ability for other teams to get a run on have definitely been a lowlight and cause for concern - however these things can be addressed.

The performance against Melbourne at the G and the re-emergence of Zorko as a creative and damaging half back have been some highlights, as well as the opportunity for some of the younger talent on our list to get an opportunity. The win on the weekend should have been 100 points had we kicked straight and would have been even more extraordinary given the circumstances. A gutsy performance when our season was definitely on the line.

I recall Brendan Bolton (during his time as Hawthorn's caretaker) discussing their mindset of when 1 soldier goes down, another steps up to fill the role. This approach has Fagan written all over it and he will be backing the inclusions to get the job done. As big a loss each player has been, we have been able to:
  • Fill Kiddy's role with someone as equally (if not more) damaging in Zorko
  • Doedee and Dizzy were largely absent from the side in 2023
  • Will be likely to cover Linc's high-half forward role (medium sized forward with good decision making and contested marking ability) with Ah-Chee (who has been on the fringe and a real swing-man in recent years)
We also have the inclusions of Bailey, Ashcroft and Dev to look forward to which will improve our side with class and experience. Assuming a better run of injuries until September, the current injury 'crisis' will at least give our depth some decent exposure and preparation if they need to be called upon again. I am really excited to get a look at some of the emerging talent on our list and I believe we have enough experience across all lines to 'carry' these younger players i.e. we have not hit the point of critical mass (just yet).

Premierships aren't won in April/May. Although our season is in a precarious position, if we could manage to make finals or even a first week home final, we're in with a genuine chance for a flag.

There's still plenty of (lion) left in this fight.
Called it
