In the last 10 years, players we've drafted inside the top 20 are:

Morabito, Fyfe, Pitt, Sheridan, crozier, Simpson, Apeness, Weller.

Only Fyfe worked out.

Since 2016 we have Logue, Brayshaw, Cerra all on the park at the same time with Sturt hopefully not too far away. Huuuge difference to the mediocrity we've been saddled with.

Some quality trading over the last coupla years, also the next gen academy might unearth a gem or two. Future is brighter than anytime the last 5 years.

While I think he's done a great job this year, he's still inexperienced and learning. I'd still be keen on getting ex Freo boy Neil Balme, with Bell understudy.

I also like someone's suggestion about Mark Brayshaw for three years or so to get us back on our feet.

Love that idea, Mark Brayshaw is a quality person - smart and articulate, the sort of person we need on the board. I wonder if he'd consider an offer. 2 kids in WA and Andy will be a long stay at the club.

Aside from the whole Gaff thing which, actually probably worked out well in Andy’s favour anyway. Quality family.

Something has to change in the way we are developing our players for whatever reason we just don't seem to be able to get the most out of our fringe type players and we seem to have very limited vision as far as trying players in different roles

If picking up a cheap trade or delisted player from Freo to find a bargain best 22 or handy depth player isn't a thing already for other clubs then it should be

Even bloody Sutty is holding down a spot in Ports team the drafting / recruitment hasn't been amazing but neither has been our ability to maximise the potential of the players we do have

Interesting to note than in their tenth year of rebuild Brisbane will most likely finish on top of the ladder in 2019 with their highest in the nine years preceding being 12th in 2013. They were 6th in 2009. No pain no gain it seems - in their case at least.

It was a long rebuild but they got the right people

Yep, wasted years when they made the mistake of the quick appointment of Leppitsch.

Yeah maybe but probably more to do with the impact on drafting with GCS and Giants sucking the guts out. It also impacted a fair bit on us as we were up the ladder and even up to 2015 as the effects of their picks spread out with trades ec. GWS for example 3 picks in the top 15. Basically shoved clubs who had finished higher back a fair bit in the pecking order.

Morabito looked like he was going to be a gun before the injuries. Basically got Cerra/Brayshaw for Weller.

As we know, the injury aspect has a huge impact on team performance. However, injuries are part of the game. You can't play well when you're not playing.

Brisbane has played the injury game well this year, and have had good on field results.

Recovery, game style, recruitment etc can affect incidence of injury. This involves a wider off field team. Some of it is bad luck, but some of it is poor form it these areas.

Draft a core group of youngsters that want to play for the club and stay in WA for a start this next draft is perfect to launch this bring them through together as leaders of the club on and off the field representing Fremantle as a club not some franchise of the AFL Peter Sumich is probably the perfect fit for the club right now get back to being Fremantle.

Has he done a great job this year? What has he actually achieved so far? Peter Bell as CEO in 2020 is one of the more ridiculous ideas I have ever heard, in what world does Peter Bell have any experience to be the CEO of the Fremantle Football Club?

How about we let him do his current job and see how that goes, I hope he will ultimately be successful however the people praising him are only doing so because of his club status.

That doesn't qualify anyone for a job as CEO of a business with a turnover of tens of milllions.

Exactly. Bell will serve us well if he sticks to football. As for CEO qualifications, most of the Freo Board of Directors have impressive CVs with experience in big business, accounting, other directorships (see Sunday Times backgrounder today) and I would expect this experience to translate into a sound choice of CEO.

It's really not that hard to do....two for me, two for you and two for the club...if the phone rings always return to two for me ....:D

  • New medico (or training methods given surface issues): losing as many key players as went down for you guys this season is going to put a line through any team challenging, even if everything else comes together.
  • New age coach: Hardwick, Beveridge, Simpson... all "reach" their players and give their younger, talented players opportunities and license to take on the game.
  • Tim Kelly: dynamic, quick, great disposal and kicks goals. A fit Fyfe, Walters and Kelly on the ball gives Freo an on-ball unit on par with other top 4 teams. Coniglio would also work, but suspect Kelly is more gettable.
  • Belief: All the pieces are already there, just need to go out and fight for it, every game.

Kelly is almost certainly going to West Coast and he doesn't have great disposal.
