I was eBay the other day and saw a 12 Jordan. I was intrigued.

Can someone explain it to me. Could do research but would rather have discussion
Very early 90s (I think 89-90 season, but could be 90-91). Bulls playing in Orlando. Jordan has his jersey stolen shortly before tipoff. So he wore the #12 spare (obviously with no name on the back). Only wore it in one game. I'm assuming the one on eBay was some sort of replica, because I reckon it would easily get six figures (possibly seven) at a high-rollers auction.

I think he went off for 40+ that game, as well.

There ya bloody go. This one i saw obviously replica as it had Jordan on the back.
Can't imagine anything like this happening these days in nba hey.

Not that I follow soccer at all but a matchworn David Beckham jersey would surely have to be up there as well.
While there may indeed be fewer Beckham match worns out there (simply figuring out how many games both men played is a good guide, though I'm not 100% sure if players wear a new uniform for every game), his name just doesn't have the mythical status attached to it that Jordan's does. There's never even been a point in time that Beckham was the best player in the world, has there? Jordan is considered to be on a completely different level to any other baketball player ever.

There would be many more Beckham match worn shirts and boots than Jordan's imo. Seen a fair few Beckham items on auction websites in the UK. Never actually seen a Jordan MW though. Plus, soccer players go through shirts like paris hilton goes through men.

Yeah, but I think NBA players get a new uniform for each game, these days as well. Remember how Gilbert Arenas and Dennis Rodman used to throw their jerseys into the crowd after every game? Not sure that it was always the case though.

I look at USA eBay for match worn and player issue sporting gear. Nfl nba MLB etc.
Put it this way. we're freakin lucky to have oppourtunity to pick up a nic nat jumper player issue for say 300 or so for example.
A similar ilk type of player NFL match issue would fetch 1200+.

Although I'm tight on eBay auctions around here in posting them, I'm sure no one will care at me saying that there is an Arizona cardinals player issue Larry Fitzgerald for 1800 on US eBay. Just to show you an idea of price.

That is very awesome 23_fan! Jewel of your collection? Continuing the Jordan theme, I own a pair of Oakley sunglasses he designed, when he was a board member there.

http://au.oakley.com/products/1275/2672

The Leather/Gold Iridium ones.

A six-ton generator cranks the 425,000 watts that are devoured by X METAL® and five-axis machining maintains 0.0005" precision. Envisioned by the styling eye of Oakley Board Member Michael Jordan, the second generation of X METAL® is a sculptural mechanical frame, logically structured around a new circular lens design. MARS® is rendered in three configurations, including wrapped leather.
(Not my pics)

It was also worn by Tyler Durden in Fight Club

I categorise them in the 'so bad they're good' category, much like The Ochre.

This pair has achieved cult status in Oakley collecting circles.

Basically my favourite film - next to Donnie Darko and Lost in Translation. It's cool owning them for that alone. A stunning piece of cinema.

Players don't get new jerseys for each game even now. Teams aren't as tight as they were back in the 80s but they don't issue 82 new jerseys either. Star players will get around 4-5 new jerseys, home and road, plus all the special event stuff that happens and the Finals. I have a Wade jersey from 04/05 that is photo-matched from the preseason right through until mid-february, which was about 20 games or so. Gilbert had a special deal with the team and would foot the bill for replacing a certain amount of jerseys he threw into the stand. Rodman was less frequent, usually when he fouled out, and generally only at home. There was an instance in 97 when the Bulls were on the road and he tossed his jersey, only to have team staff go and retrieve it because they needed it for the next game (sucks to be that fan).

You'd think that with the amount of coin there is in the NBA they'd be able to provide new ones for each match. They'd probably be able to make that money back if they selled them too, maybe theres other reasons for it.

Ah, quite right. I do remember reading something about that at the time. Arenas actually used to buy himself a new microwave on road trips because he complained that room service food wasn't hot enough when it got to his room. What a nutjob...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the authentic ones they sell for about $250 are exactly the same, they just get the extra tag to denote the year when they are used in a game. You'd make your money back tenfold for a superstar, but you can pick up benchwarmers' game worns for under $150 on eBay, so I think a bit of common sense regarding maybe a new uniform for every sixty minutes spent on the court (which could last some twelfth men a month or more) would be the way to go.

If they wore a new one every match though they wouldn't be worth nearly as much I don't think. They'd be too common, everyone would be wearing a game worn jersey because of the amount that existed. Having said that though, American sports memorabilia does have a habit of going for ridiculous prices, so they would still be way more than you'd hope.

Every single one of those is amazing! My favourite is the Orange Kangaroos. Have never seen one of them in the flesh before. Wow. :thumbsu:
