Don’t forget Jeff Kennett closing all the asylums!
Hey, leave Jeff out of this.

I mean sure, Jeff as premier might have closed mental health facilities.

And also closed regular hospitals.

And also awarded government advertising contracts to an agency he co-owned.

And then undermined the Auditor General.

And sacked every democratically elected local council in Victoria, then merged them, then appointed his people to run them.

And privatised the State Electricity Commission.

And privatised the Gas & Fuel Corporation.

And privatised the trains.

And privatised the trams.

And privatised the government owned buses.

And closed roughly half the state schools in Victoria.

And given Transurban a 30 year lease to run tolls on CityLink.

And imposed a 2 cent per litre fuel levy that the High Court later ruled was unconstitutional.

And merged TAFEs.

And drastically cut government services in rural and regional areas.

But on the other hand, he did set Hawthorn up for the threepeat, so really we should call it even.

Easiest answer you will find.
Simon Goodwin was a fraud and destroyed a generational list that Paul roos built.

Many dees fans including myself tried to make this known to the club years ago but the delusional folk there didn't want to hear it

Age caught up to them combined with the off field stuff.

It was the same side that rocketed to the prelim in 2018, so a large part of that core had been there for awhile.

Natural rise and fall of most teams (not named Geelong)
Can't say it's age when the oldest 2 clubs by a long way are the pies and cats

I think this post is pretty much on the money, PowerfulPies2023. Hope that answers the questions you had in the OP.

Goodwin failed to evolve, kept trying to play 2021 football every year without trying to change.

We also wasted our chances, we had Collingwood over a barrel but slipped on a banana and fell off the edge.

Losing Luke Jackson was also huge for us.
And Brayshaw. Was the heart and soul of the side and our Mr Fixit.

You should have coached them. You's would have gone back to back.

Glad we cut the cord. Think we're well positioned with our picks and youth. Couple of development years ahead which is fine, club has a direction again. Decision making been a lot more mature since moving on Goodwin.

This 100%.

Under Goodwin Melbourne played a highly contested game that was very innefficient. The rest of the league moved pass that. Collingwood in particular exposed it with quick scoring through a superior outside game.

Right up until the end Goodwin was playing three contested beasts with suspect kicking skills in the middle. This game plan simply did not do enough damage offensively. If you cannot score more than the opposition it is irrelevent how much you bet them by in contested footy.
