As we enter 2007 H & A season, it would be worth questioning what happened to St Kilda?
After winning 10 games straight including one in perth and one in adelaide and then almost getting to a grand final, it seemed that the Saints just died in their tracks?
What was it that caused the demise? In my mind, it comes down to the following factors:-
1. Departure of Heath Black - was getting 20 odd disposals each game, and his work in fremantle shows that he could have been the critical difference when playing against perth teams.
2. Injuries & Injury Management - nuff said.
3. Grant Thomas - there is a fair debate with some people liking him heaps and some considering him the worst. I think he was in the middle.
4. Ruckmen - Trent Knobel had less than 5 disposals in his last two games (both finals) with St Kilda. 2005-6 saw that cain ackland while initially showing promise petered out.
5. Not good enough - was st kilda ever good enough to win the premiership over the 2004-06 period? Or was it just pure hype by the Victoria media desparate for a victorian champion?
