I'm completely dumb struck!

Could someone please try to explain how a team who needs to defend a huge score (373 runs) with only half a day to play, picked up 3 quick wickets and yet still manages to lose outright?

Is Queensland just damn good or are Tassie just crap?

Tassie tactics over the years have been to ensure they cannot lose before declaring. This has frustrated me for a long time. In most games the captains of other states set a gettable target in order to leave themselves enough time to hopefully get an outright themselves.

I am pleased Tassie were beaten when they probably thought their position was unloseable. Unfortunately this result will only cement their gameplan of not setting any reasonable targets. In fact they will probably go even further from now on and just bat on to a draw.

There was an instance when Boon and Siddons captained Tassie & SA respectively. They had agreed that SA would not slow the game down in the first session of the last day and Tassie would declare at lunch if they had exceeded a 250 run lead. At lunch they were over 300 runs ahead and batted on after lunch despite the agreement.

That was when my distaste for the tactic was born.

Would like to echo servos comments there - I'm glad Tassie lost, surprised and totally gobsmacked that they did lose it - but pleased none the less.

Tassie tactics have been rather distasteful over the last few years, especially when you consider they have a good, if not great side that is quite capable of going all the way and winning the Pura Cup.

However you don't get to win a Pura Cup just by playing cautiously and not losing, you're just not going to get there on 1st innings points alone, outright victories are the key and it is vital for captains to show a bit of enterprise and daring by using creative declarations and other unorthodox tactics to try and get that elusive outright victory.

Tassie will never win anything whilst they persist with their present tactics

cheers

After Queensland's BIG win over the Vics, I think that that has answered my initial question:

Queensland are just damn good!

On to a another game, the Tigers are definately giving it to the Blues at Bellerive Oval. Punter 187n.o. in the 1st innings to go with his 233 and 60 odd in the last game. Hopefully it will pan out to be a good close game!

GO TASSIE!!!!!!!!!!
