Its bizarre how many people expect Iacobucci to get the chop at seasons end!
Let me make this crystal clear, Iacobucci has had a great spell of football recently, he wins stacks of contested possessions and you will always find him at the bottom of every pack.

I thought MOST footballers were given three years in the system to establish themselves - if anything, Iacobucci has one more year to go to complete his "apprenticeship" ....then we can call on drastic measures, if needed.

He definitly is a "project" player! In Willy he is doing great, i just dont think he is ready for AFL yet, but he is in our next senior side...i tell ya what its exciting at Collingwood with the likes off..the future midfield..

GO PIES!!

Likely to be retained for another year. Has not done enough to be delisted, but certainly has not done enough either to guarantee his tenure beyond 2007. Next season will be make or break for him.

Retirements/Delistings/trades this year are likely to be

Hall
Walker
Morrison
Wakelin (posssible retirement)
Caracella
Rowe (possible trade)
Fanning

Thats enough for one season. Yakka will definitely play on next year.

Richards HAS to be gone - 6 years at the club for no return. He's been healthy all year, and just not good enough. Burns is a possible retirement too, remember.

Even if we look at it as Walker, Hall, Richards, Morrison, Caracella and one out of Burns, Wakelin or, if they both decide to play on, Fanning, that still gives us:

-One spot on the senior list for Harry
-Four National draft selections (last one being in the #56-61 range)
-One PSD Selection

Although it is a "superdraft" this year, that is not to say that we'll be picking up superstars in the 70's, so it's not important to have a heap of draft picks this year.

I would, however, expect the team to do very well with our ND picks, because with Martin Clarke signed up as a rookie, we won't be picking in the Rookie Draft.

I agree Richards is on thin Ice. I wouldn't be suprised if a couple of clubs showed interest. Tap ruckman are hard to come by and he could be worth a punt for a club like the dogs who could do with a ruckman.

I can't see us getting rid of any young on ballers who show a bit. With Bucks, Licca and Burns all likely to be gone in a couple of years we need more mids coming through the system.

Ignoring list management concerns, Yakka has some problems. It's the "wins stacks of contested possessions" comment fro Coin which I disagree with in part.

He is no doubt a committed inside midfileder, but he's not a natural extrator. He played against McGough in the only Willi game I saw this season and he got completely owned, barely able to win a possie. I have noticed a tendency for him to also go cold in possession winning for elongated periods, even when not up against the McGoughs of this world.

So if he isn't an extractor, then is he an inside pocket rocket rover? He's not slow and he can kick, but then he's no Shane Crawford. So the question mark is; is it feasible to be an in between type in the modern game??

I wouldn't consider him to be in a heap of danger come season's end, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did move him on. I wouldn't move him on personally.

He could be a Brayden Shaw vanilla small or a good all round midfielder like Swan is.

What I have heard from Chip Le Grand is that Chris Tarrant, while drunk of course and at 4AM threatened his parents and ate Yakka's children and forced him to "play dead" at Willy so he doesn't take his spot.

I live in Willie therefore get to see most Willie home games. Saw Yakka last year several times, and he played well in a few. This year he has killed them, plays like a Brett Ratten did at Carlton. His hard work in packs in getting the ball out is efficient and clean. Unlike the outside player that receives and kicks long and looks pretty (and people think their **** doesn’t stink), this kids work is unnoticed. The problem is this kid needs time at the top end to develop. As he has significantly improved on last year, several consecutive games in the seniors will change the minds of his knockers

I love how people compare him to Paul Licuria, but then expect him to come on really quickly... It took Licuria quite a while to get to where he was at a couple of years ago.

Has looked decent in some games most definately, but on the issue of why he is in the mix is simply the fact that he was a 4th round draft pick, and has managed 4 games in 2 seasons, with only 1 in his second season.

As discussed, there still seems there is junk to get rid of, so Yakka is looking quite safe, however, with the reasons above, it is simply why the suggestions are somewhat granted.

I'm starting to change my mind a bit about him.

I had him on my 'delist' list earlier, but I think he may be worth another two years.
He could become a 'Bartel' type of midfielder given time

Many probably do need 3-4 years but the reality many who get it still don’t make it. In the ideal world you’d be making all the right calls after 2 based on having a good gague to strengths and weaknesses and potential upside. Some coach’s and clubs do it better than others. We have done it worse than many for a long time. Not saying it’s easy but to be at the upper end of list management which is what you need with a very regulated player market you need to do it and do it well. In some cases you can get a trade before a player is fully found out. Sheedy has done that quite a lot.

Iacobucci hasnt done ANYTHING wrong, week in week out he does a reasonable job, not setting the world alight. Just this week in the Inside Football the review about him was, "In and under the packs, as usual"
So obviously he isnt doing anything wrong, simply developing. But you have ********s on here that always wanna give **** to players for no apparent reason. HE WAS DRAFTED 24 MONTHS AGO, LAY OFF HIM!
He will be used a lot more next year.
