What have we learnt ?

god they've nailed it with Gunston, Burgoyne, Hale and Lake. If we could do something similar wed be some sort of chance in the next few years.

How did they do it? We have Hine, but he cannot work miracles everywhere. It must a tight football department with smart united people. Maybe we have some hitch-hikers.

This is what Bucks said..."Hawthorn today was the side that seized those moments and we let them go. That's the big take home for us. “We did a lot right but there's a lot more for us to learn. We think we'll face them better next time."

Personally I am sick to death of hearing the same old excuses when we play the Hawks. Yet another 5 goal loss and I for one am well and truly over listening to how we will improve next time.
Yeah, he should've said we are shit and I see no way for us to improve whatsoever :drunk:

Note the time I posted the message you have responded to. Now I realise that you don't know me but let me give you a little background information. I like to cut loose at the footy; by that I mean I like to consume a few beers. When we lose I get a little disappointed and sometimes I have a little rant in here after the game. Responding to a rant 3 days later when the emotion has subsided is a tad unfair, although you did get the smilie face right. For the record I think our performance was an improvement on previous encounters although it will count for nothing if the same result occurs in the last round.

Amidst all of our angst about disposal, there has to be some optimism in looking at our capacity to recover from turnovers. I don't know how they do it, but more often than not our players somehow manage to regain possession after a turnover.
What they lose is a lot of scoring opportunities when the ball in turned over in relatively low pressure situations. This is at the heart of our lack of scoring and poor accuracy: so much that is productive happens under pressure because the low pressure opportunities have been wasted.
Perhaps an hypnotist could be employed for Goldsack. If he could be convinced that he would not fumble, drop marks or kick erratically then he would be a star. I think that these failings are all in his mind.
Blair, i think has only a limited future. He is not quite quick enough, but more importantly he is a poor pass by foot. He does not get a lot of opportunities when he has broken free, but crucially he misses his passes when he has gotten clear. Sadly, at present we are so experience poor that speculative inclusions to replace him are not possible because there is no experience around him to support a replacement like say Broomhead as he works his way into the team.
I think that we just have to be happy that we have been competitive this year with such a new side.

That we are not good enough and have a lot of work to do to return to the upper end of the ladder and have a real flag chance. We have a number of one dimensional players who do not have very good skills which kills us with turnovers. Compare our role players skills by foot to Hawthorns or Ports. We need to work them out, and you would hope Berg, Freeman, Kennedy and co could do so over the next year or two.

Same time we need to replace guys like Ball, Swan, Maxy and to a lesser extent Trav who are all getting on. Good news is we seem to be doing so but they are only kids and will need time.

I also think we need to stop being cute at the trade table re getting pinch hitters like White and Lynch and go for some guns.

I am actually happy with how we are going about it overall but the real problem is that we are going to run into AFL created monsters in GC and GWS and I am not sure we will be able to get over that hurdle. I am probably still cut up by the last AFL super side, the Brions.

A good experienced ruckman would be a godsend for our mids at the moment.
Witts and Grundy are good up and coming rucks, but we all saw what Jolly bought to the club when he was recruited.
If we had one, our clearances wouldn't be as low as they are now, which would inturn, relate to more clearances and more direct footy to our forwards.

Is Dean Cox contracted for 2015?

So the Hill tag seemed somewhat successful... Question is, does he still get the tag when Mitchell comes back? Assuming of course that he plays.

Cox is already West Coast's ruck coach.

Father time has caught up with him this year so he's not who he once was.

You'd love to have him even as half the player he was but he's not moving to any club.

He's a West Coast or nothing guy and like with Jon Brown, Pavlich, Riewoldt. He's not someone who would even consider moving even for increased premiership chances.

Ben Hudson is our Ruck Coach.

Cox would never leave the Eagles and WA

I cant see another experience ruck in the comp that's worth chasing at the moment to be honest.
At least not that is willing to know that he is only going to be around for another year before he starts to get over run by the boys on our list.

It'd be a mistake to think Jolly was the perfect ruckman. He worked despite losing the hitouts most games and giving away liberal amounts of free kicks. But what he did aligned very well with what was a more than handy midfield. We do miss his around the ground marking though and that uncanny knack of sneaking forward and kicking a clutch goal.

You know what I mean.
If we could land one it would be handy for us in our chase for the Cup in the next few years.
Plus, Jolly decided to play some of his best we needed it.
And I'm not a Jolly fan.

Giles if he goes out of favour but next year I expect he'll be available more cheaply as GWS realise he's not part of their future plans.
