What I learned today

Too me he is serviceable depth Wicksy, and will probably being around our 25 all year. I'll be honest and say I'd rather not see his name on the team sheet come September though

I'm unsure how he's still getting a game even with our injuries.

Maxwell, Brown, Toovey
Harry, Reid, Heater

Clarke (inter)

That right there is a solid backline..... With Tarrant back, it's even more reason for him not to get a game.

Haven't read the entire thread, so not sure if others have mentioned the following.

I was a bit dubious on Sinclair and his abilities early on in the season. What I learnt from the weekend is how important he has become to our side particularly his pace and forward pressure. We missed him I reckon on the weekend.

Maxwell made some monumental clangers in teh first half and put teammates under pressure (mostly poor Buckley).

But Maxy got better as the game wore on and was a matchwinner. Buckley was ok.

As i said Maxwell played well as a defender but people love to over look his disposal and pot Buckley for the same mistakes as Maxwell (and some were due to Maxwell hand balling to a passing Buckley who had a opponent riding him like a jockey), hell I'm not saying Buckley played well just find it funny that people are so blinded by there Maxwell love and over look it very rarely do you see a fair analyses of his game like you just posted.

Dont disagree. I dont think that Buckley was all that bad. I think his pace in the backline is a valuable asset. A number of times early in the game he was sold into trouble, mostly by Maxwell.

Whether Buckley is best 22 is arguable. But we have half a dozen players we probably arent going to get back for the rest of the year, so at the moment he is between 18-25.

said this in 2010,and still say it.Buckley should be played on a HFF.Could be used as a forward defensive tagger and his boot would be a major weapon.

i think he has talent, but not in the backline
He's dumb as dog shit, his one trick is roosting it 60 and thats all well in good if he at least roosted too the right areas, instead of just blindly bombing.

He's getting a game because Johnson has been injured, along with minor injuries to shaw and toovey. It's now time he gets dropped

Played more in the midfield yesterday and wasn't too shabby at all,did some good things.as i said previously the more further up the field he goes the better he gets.He simply isnt a back line player but he certainly has some talent

Just so wrapt to see how well Beamer played under close scrutiny from Crowley - it hardly seemed to phase him at all (saw him off by half time) - in fact the only thing that slowed him down a little was Daisy.

Fasolo can play team orientated footy - which was great.

Simon Buckley had a strong game.

Blair is fast becoming a B plus standard - another mighty game from the pocket dynamo.

Jolly is having a fine mid season series - please hold out big fella.

Bucks has used 36 players now and those who have been blooded have been fantastic - Mooney's 20 minute stint was very encouraging!

I think Simon Buckley is always going to be a whipping boy on here his form is variable and he is only depth and his biggest issue is his decision making which I think comes from a lack of confidence,I will say I wish some of our players could kick as well as him,one thing I did notice yesterday was a very fine piece of play from him on the wing when he baulked and ran around someone very nice work indeed.

I am just glad he had the confidence to even try something like like and good on him for pulling it off.:thumbsu:

We were also playing freo where our midfield won easily and played under little pressure

Things I learned.

- Buckley is better up the ground.
- Marley Williams could be the small defender we have craved
- Our backline is as rusty as a 1980s Italian car
- Maxy would have to cure cancer, solve the Mid East crisis and win a nobel prize for literature to get any credit. And would still be thought of as a shit bloke by the mouth breathers.
- Blair is seriously underestimated.

I think it's absolutely fair to withhold judgement until he puts it together against one of the top teams. So far his decision making has been atrocious against highly rated opposition.

His decision making isnt atrocious against highly rated opposition. His decision making is atrocious against teams capable of applying sustained pressure which makes him panic.

Don't mind having Williams in the backline, but would love to see him in the midfield in the future.

Well our backline was performing amazingly well in the first half, I just don't know what happened after that. Players were just getting slack imo.

i am looking forward to the next few weeks against carlton, hawthorn and geelong mainly because i want to see what; Marley williams, Simon Buckley, Jamie Elliott, Benny Sinclair and Alex Fasolo can all do against some real big bodied rivals.

These are three massive games for our club, and i will be watching these boys very closely, if they perform they deserve a spot in the best 22, this will be a real test or examination for many fringe players to stake a claim for finals.
