all pretty impressive stats but when was the last time Brad won a game for the Richmond footy club or took the game by the scruff of the neck? I cant remember a time. Please let me know when this happened!

Just because he is not our number 1 player, just because he is not the number 1 ruckman in the league, just because he is good and not great ... none of that is cause to simply decide he is rubbish and that we should expect next to nothing for him.

The truth is that he is a good ruckman and handy key forward. Guys like that are rare and trade at a premium. Never did I say he was worth the money he wanted (although you end up paying big blokes $100k more than they are worth in all circumstances).

At 24 years of age he probably has his best 8 years ahead of him.

Look at the prices paid for ruckman - Rehn (pick 12), Street (pick 20), French (pick 16), Corey McKernan (pick 14, pick 30 and Porter), Mathew Clarke (pick 6 and pick 21), Peter Everitt (pick 6 and pick 22), Barry Brooks (pick 6 and pick 31), Jason Ball (pick 11 and pick 41).

I think that is enough evidence to suggest that we should be looking at a first and second round pick PLUS a player (at least). Everitt and Rehn were veterans in the above and McKernan was damaged goods. I think we should get at least the same as in the McKernan deal. Being a weak draft will mean clubs won't be too keen to keep their picks.

Ok I see where your coming from now (re-other ruckman) and you make a very interesting points. If a club was prepared to offer 2 picks and a player I believe they are ripping themselves off and I wont complain if they do LOL

What pick in the draft do you think Ottens is worth? He was a pick #2 in the 1997 but hasn't really lived up to being worth that pick so reallistically you couldn't expect to get anything more than a pick around the 6-12 mark.

I'm not trying to make a deal only trying to guage what he is worth, he isn't amongst the top 5 players from his year why would you expect to get anything more than a 6-12 pick for him?

man if you honestly believe that then you have no idea!!

Joel Corey is a gun and would easily slot into our midfield, as JohnF says if Geelong offer us their first 2 picks i'd also jump at it, get something for a guy who has played only 1 good season in 7 is music to my ears.

But if Geelong offered pick 16 and J.Corey I'd happily agree to that.

about time some Richmond supporters stopped overating our players, its quite embarrassing and sickening.

I'm glad you're not doing our deals! Simple fact - quality big men are hard to come by. Yes he's been disappointing for years but we know what he's capable of - unlike a lot of tall players he actually has skill and not many have. You can say that Ottens is potential only but what are first round draft choices - potential only. Ottens has shown he's good enough.
As for Corey, forget it - we've seen what his potential is and I'm not that excited. Rather have two low picks for kids - 1 in the top ten.

How many players can we have on the list these days?

1) We already have a lot of draft picks. How many more can we seriously use?

2) If we get rid of Ottens, we will need a replacement ruckman short term, and have to use one of our picks to reciut one or two more tall kids. I Can't see how we can win with this trade as we will have to use everything we get just to replace him.

zombie: did you not read anything weaver wrote? it will be something like first round pick (6-12) a second round pick AND a player. he has provided the evidence to support it.

As a North supporter i am really keen on Ottens. While he hasn't said he wants to play for us, deals are done against the players wishes ala Jade Rawlings. What do you think it will take to trade him to North? I was thinking along the lines of:

*David Trotter - Pick 9 last year, Wallace a big wrap for him on radio

*Pick 10 and/or 23

Thoughts?

could your club afford the Money Man Ottens?

We are currently paying around 93% of our cap and have publically stated that we will go close to 100% next year. I'm guessing that leaves around $500k plus to play with. While i don't want to pay Ottens that much i believe that we are chasing Simmons for $300k, and therefore wouldn't mind paying $350k to $375k for a better player. What would you want from North?
