Geelong being caught 'cheating' should not stop any true fan from supporting the club (whether it be financially or not). As annoyed as I would be and much as I'd want to weed out those involved, it would personally not stop me from attending games and buying memberships.
Having said that, I couldn't help but find it hilarious if another club were caught cheating, particularly if it were Carlton again (or even better, Hawthorn). :thumbsu:

add Collingwood to the list.
All their players are fighting over each other for a higher pay rise and have the 1 flag to show for this expected pay rise, going on 2½ seasons ago now and yet they somehow signed up everyone except for Dawes.
Lynch would have cost just as much anyways

Personally wouldn't care a huge deal if Collingwood were caught cheating (not to say it wouldn't be funny). Would mainly find it hilarious if it were an arrogant club that spruiks about its history (Hawthorn, Carlton) or a club that has been provided with generous leg-ups by the AFL (Suns, GWS, Eagles).

every club does it imo, just so happens Adelaide burnt a few bridges with that whole Rendell fiasco a year ago and well, someone has decided to dibba dob on them and they have been caught out red handed.
I'm not as bigger cynic as you on this, Bobby. The risks involved in flagrantly ignoring the rules are far too great these days. I don't think it's widespread.

The Adelaide 'deal' was dumb and always going to end in tears. John Reid, who was part-n-parcel of it, has acknowledged that in recent times.

until Robots rule the world, it's always going to happen...it's human nature but this is coming from the imagination of a person who has never been involved in business, administrations of any kind nor have I any understanding how an organization such a football club would run, so your opinion on the matter would hold greater value than mine.

Hey folks, was just over on the Crows board wondering what discussions were like around the Tippett fiasco. It got me thinking how lucky we've been that until this point GFC have behaved pretty well and had success. But what if we were caught cheating like Adelaide, or we had WC's drug issues, StKilda's school girl stuff, Carlton's shit culture etc.

At what point do you think it becomes your obligation, as a fan/member/person from Geelong to sink yr boots into people at the club over shit like that? Do you keep the membership?
How many of us would have coped with the Melbourne Storm fiasco? Imagine we, GFC, get stripped of our 3 flags like happened to Storm? No, I can't. They are our evidence of turning it around, and becoming the benchmark team. Pretty tough pill to swallow.
Imagine playing 2013 for no points.
Now, with Storm, they are amazingly back on top.
Suppose, life, support, footy just goes on.

We're both just putting forward our observations, Bobby.Nothing more. I just feel the AFLs investigative powers are so great these days, not only into clubs but players too, it's hard to imagine why any club would attempt to wilfully subvert the system. The cost in terms of on-field performance and brand damage is immense. That said,I guess you only need one less than pure official to undermine things.

We already have been caught cheating the cap in the past. 1998 and it wasn't even like we cheated for any benefit! Who the hell deserved the extra cash??

I agree with footscore, this is everywhere across the league, some(most) are just better at hiding it. Its taken quite the ballsup on Adelaide's behalf to get it uncovered.

Yep this kind of thing happens at every club and I have no doubt Geelong do it aswell (be it extra money or helping players move on if they want to, promising them $x amount of media money or sponsorship or a car, whatever) the difference is not all clubs are dumb enough TO LEAVE A DAMN PAPER TRAIL!
If we got caught Melb Storm style then I'd be like VC, a part of my love for the club would be destroyed and I would find it hard to support the team again.
Using the Storm example I would want everyone involved to be fired (shot?) and a complete wash out of any bad wood but even into the future I'd find it hard to watch the side because I would think the players would have known what was going on therefore were a part of it. I'd probably become just an AFL follower and lose alot of interest in the sport until many years later when all those players have since retired and the memory has faded.
Lets be happy it hasnt happened and unlikely that it would (we wouldnt have a dickhead player holding our club for ransom for a start).

This may be one of the few advantages of the Geelong fishbowl echo chamber.
Namely, that any systematic doping program or salary rorting would become so widely known so quickly that it simply could not be sustained.

The difference is, if we are or have currently cheated we are doing a bloody good job of it - drugs, salary cap or otherwise!
Every star we have in our team we have drafted & built from the ground up, every player takes modest pays to keep the team & culture together.

Would be sad to think that it could happen, but our players & management have always been fairly transparent as to what players get paid.
Perhaps if we still had Ablett there could be course for conjecture but not currently IMO.

There is so much hatred towards Geelong by a growing number of Hawthorn supporters on BF. imagine the reaction if Geelong was found.... I can't even say the word. I'd take extended leave of absence from BF...

Unless they came and physically took my DVD's, deleted all youtube footage, removed my tattoo and cleared my house of all traces of them Premierships and wiped my memory clean...then it wouldnt matter. Just becasue they would take our name of a board and books, and take the cups away...so what. Its the memories and that pure elation and that feeling of outer body mind numbing orgasmic happiness that I felt them 3 times that means more to me than anying else on this planet.

Id probably be a little annoyed and wouldnt go near the Bay for several years...but meh, no biggie.

Id still go to as many games as I could and id still love the club through and through.

Unwavering support for this club and no matter what they did, nothing will ever change my mind about that. I Live, Breathe and Die Geelong.

After a few years I guess it would be dissapointing not having them cups and watching the DVD's might be tainted a bit, but I think the good feelings from them days would still outweigh any bad feelings.

but that would make the wins nothing better than NAB Cup premierships - meaningless

It’s quite sad to read some posters effectively accusing the club of wilfully and systematically infringing AFL rules and doing so without a trace of evidence.

Not only is it insulting to our present administration, it would be the height of stupidity for a club to wilfully and systematically offend as the AFL Investigative Unit has widespread investigative and surveillance powers and the repercussions of offending nowadays are dire.
