• THE AFL wants to follow the United States' national basketball competition and transform its national draft into a prime time TV event.

Under a plan presented to clubs yesterday, the AFL mooted the possibility of announcing the top 10 draftees in reverse order.
The 10-to-one countdown would culminate with the No.1 player, and his new coach, being interviewed by AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou.
The draft would then be completed in normal fashion, from No.11.
Fox Sports would broadcast the event between 6.30-8pm on Thursday, November 26 under the proposal. Clubs have a month to formally register responses to the plan.
The top-10 countdown would require the clubs with the top 10 picks to make those selections in-camera.
As it stands, the draft is to be held on the morning of Saturday, November 28.

Probably pointless, but I like it. Was the draft on FTA last year? I don't remember the last time I saw the draft, I used to enjoy it. The top 10 countdown is good, they should show a detailed highlights package of each top 10 pick, for those who haven't seen the kids their team is drafting yet.

It'd get people excited.

Draft wasn't on FTA, I had to listen to it through the AFL's website.
