Jeez low turnout for this one? no love for the Roys? or has it been a bit overdone with previous comps?

yeah, feel like I've done a fair few fitzroy designs for this comp. Also, I couldn't really put together anything that I had any confidence in beating yours.

Yeah I second what Fancyscum said.
Once I see somebody's great design I usually can't muster the inspiration to make my own. I only wanted to win 1 WiW and when I did that I sort of lost the motivation?
Depends on what's next week :)

True I hear what you're saying, after having a look thru the comps the roys have been done a fair bit, cheers for the compliments, I don't want to stop anyone from putting designs in though lol, tbh i thought mine were a bit tame considering what's possible with the gorillas I guess, but you never know what people like sometimes...

I'm just going to throw in my two cents about WIW, please remember this is how I feel, it doesn't reflect everyones view

Some of the proposed designs are quite boring and definitely do not seem likely to encourage and engage people in the competition. All of the 'VFL Expansion' and some of the 'Proposed' designs fit this category.

The competitions have been running since September 2014, so maybe the seasoned designers of the board are becoming bored of the competitions. This would explain why CEOTTK has had so much interest - because it's new and exciting. At this rate, WIW will be going until about June 2022 - nearly eight years since the first competition was held, which at the moment seems light years away

Maybe capping the number of competitions to be held in the future (keep going to Week 50, for example), or culling the list to the most desirable 7-10 designs would be beneficial, so interest will be spruiked given people know it is winding up, and then there is plenty of time to lay the foundations for a replacement competition

As a newcomer, it probably sounds like I'm just trying to come in and flip the place upside down, but that's not the case. This is just my observation and my ideas

100% See where you're coming from, the list is comprised of real life proposals which fizzled out, never went through or popped up in news articles. This competition gives life to them hence "What If" and thanks to the FJGD commnunity, they've dug up more What Ifs which never saw the light though now it's at a point where there's too many or some require little to no creativity which seems deterring (Point proven with this weeks What If)

There will be some patches where only 2-3 will enter and others which rake in over 10, perhaps it's down to what can be designed, what creativity is available, how appealing the team sounds or how known a proposal is eg. Melbourne Hawks, Tasmania team, Brisbane Bears all got 10+ entries.
In hindsight, theoreticals will culled of its dead weight and VFL Expansion will remain for its authenticity. I might remove more unappealing ones later

And with that out the way
Back to back for el Tel !
Who's next?

Yeah I'd cut theoreticals (barring the South Melbourne staying one)
Nah, even that one is pretty limited, either a v, sash or hoops. The Theoreticals that I would keep are the ones marked as 'New addition' except for the the St Kilda WWI colours which is going to ofer up just yellow in a tri panel and a HCB jumper.

From the list of entries to be done, I would cull the following:

Mergers
  • Fitzroy-St Kilda Merger
  • North Melbourne-Melbourne Merger
  • Norwood to the AFL
  • Fitzroy to Queensland
  • St Kilda to Perth
  • Sydney Lions
  • Footscray to Queensland
  • Fitzroy to Canberra
Fremantle
  • Union
  • Courage
  • Stokers
GWS
  • Pride
Gold Coast
  • Marlins
Brisbane
  • Breakers
Theoreticals
  • Ballarat League Team
  • North Melbourne/Essendon
  • Coburg
  • Public Service FC
  • Trans Australian Airlines
  • If South didn't relocate
  • If South stayed as the Bloods
  • If North stayed as the Shinboners
  • If St Kilda stayed as the Seagulls
  • If St Kilda kept their WWI colours
  • If the Bulldogs went to Ballarat
  • If Port went to Central Australia
That leaves 11 designs to be completed, which are the best ones and are the most likely to grow numbers. Also, it sets a realistic finishing date, which would be around April-May 2019, rather than June 2022 which would be the finishing date if all the designs listed are completed

I don’t think I’d be able to see this one go :(
But I see where you’re coming from. As such, I vow to compete in every upcoming WIW week (Lets see how that lasts.

While we’re here el Tel i love your template, but my only gripe is how the shadow interacts with the colours on your template. I’m assuming you use Photoshop, yes? If so, what blending mode have you got the shading on? I recommend multiply personally

Good to see you committing to WIW (maybe...). It's sad to see the comp dwindle down like this, but unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Hopefully it can spark back up and keep going, if not, hopefully it wraps up on a high note

However, I agree with your view on el Tel's template. el Tel - the template is very realistic and looks great, but this part takes away from quality of the designs

To help round out a fantastic template and to showcase the centre of the jumper, not the right side, I'd buff it out similar to the left side of the jumper. That way, it maintains its realistic look while not impacting the colours or focal point of the design

Looks like he's already resolved it. That "burn" on the yellow isn't present on the gorilla head version which I'd assume was designed after the traditional one.

Hey guys, so sorry for the delay, been a bit busy. Lets do - If Port Adelaide relocated to the NT as Central Australia Power

About my template, thanks for your thoughts, tbh it's the first AFL template I've made, and I understand where you're coming from in terms of the right side, mainly chose it for the 'realism aesthetic' but I see where it detracts from the presentation of the guernsey design so I'm going to play around with some more textures to make it a bit nicer. Admittedly I'm actually a Gimp user and use a variety of blend modes depending on the situation, any other gimp people on here?
