What if......

The likelihood of another South Australian team entering the AFL in the next 20-25 years is unlikely unless the game experiences a phenomenal boom. But say the SANFL is granted another license and decides to enter another side to the AFL whether it is Glenelg, Norwood/Sturt or a Central districts side.

Now here is my serious question for all you Crows supporters. How would you feel about a third South Australian team? Would you hate them, would they be your second team and so on. This question is for all Crows supporters but I would like to especially hear from those Norwood supporters for instance assuming they would be first in line to get a third license. Would Norwood be your first team or would you stick with the Crows?

:)

Unlikely to happen IMO, but let's assume that it does and it's Norwood.

I'd treat 'em as another Port Adelaide - they're just not my team.

Its not going to happen but if it did, they would be just another opponent. Depends on how they come accross, but I very much doubt they would go top on my sh|t list as that spot is reserved for Port Adelaide and followed by Collingwood :D

Unless there is a population boom it aint going to happen or a vic club relocates.

I wouldnt hate them as I have no reason, but if there supporters started the same rubbish the Crows got in the ninties well:rolleyes:

Is a massive what if, and would depend almost solely on the population of the state. At present, the population is not growing in Adelaide and is in fact actually getting slightly smaller. Projections are that by 2050, Adelaide could be a retirement village for us all...unless they start putting fertility drugs spliced with viagra in the water and handing it out at lunchtime in the schools, it isn't going to reverse anytime soon (thius may well already be happening in the North and South bookends (ie Elizabeth and Hackham)

Only way there would be another SA based team in the AFL is if a Melbourne club relocating here & no way would that be happening as the powers that be are too focused on the eastern sea board.

As for supporting them  , just another team for the Crows to take 4 points from.

Haven't we had this question before ?

Firstly - How would I feel about another SA based side?.....Meh.....just another 4 points IMO.

Secondly - Would I hate them as much as Port Power? - Errr - No......I'd be moderately "meh-ish" about their performance whereas in contrast I'd barrack for the Al Qaida First XVIII before I barracked for Port Power.....;)

Firstly I think you dont understand the Adelaide supporter mentality. I have seen so many Port supporters with all these fallacies about the AFC. Just to clarify;

The AFC isnt just a "passing fad"
The AFC isnt a nothing club supportered by people that are only following it for the sake of it because they supposedly dont have a "real" team to support.
Just because the AFC hasnt been around for 100s of years the loyality of most of its supporters are equal to a side that is.

I dont think many people would defect from supporting Adelaide for another team. So if you really believe that the AFC would lose 20,000 supporters if Norwood went in then you really have no idea about our club and our supporters.

Most of the crows supporters now have only a passing interest in their respective SANFL sides, I would guarantee 95%+ wouldnt defect back to that club if they entered the AFL. Anybody who could support a team for x number of years and then suddenly leave them to barrack for another team in the same competition is a supporter not worth having IMO.

Another SA team in the AFL would be a massive financial disaster. Even a norwood/sturt combined team would struggle to get 15k to home games.

Its perfect how it is. They should be looking at Tassie long before another SA team.

Errr who did you support pre-1991?

Unless you are accepting that there is a special case to be made , then at one stage most of us would have had a Vic team and switched

Most SANFL supporters had a VFL club that they were loyal to, usually it had more to do with having common colours/emblem moreso than anything else.

When I say supporting I mean about buying tickets and going to the games. Supporting the AFC when they entered the AFL is very different than casually following a victorian side in the Vfl/Afl prior to Adelaide's entry. If anyone can really tell me that when they supporterd a VFL team that they felt anything close to what they do supporting the AFC I would question why they changed.

Actually my team in the AFL prior to 1991 was WCE - dropped them like a fkg hot potato when the opportunity came to support an SA team in the national comp.

Switching when the opportunity to support your own state based team becomes available when there previously wasn't one, is a different concept to switching to another one within your state - eg Port Adelaide.

I sort of followed the Bombers in the VFL/AFL but like you dropped them when the Crows came in.

I wonder how many of us (if any) would have switched over to the Paps if they had have been successful in their bid to join the AFL in 1990.

Personally i would've stayed with Essendon rather than lower myself to support PA regardless of them being a SA team.

Mark, I've got to own up if it was West ( and that could never happen ) I'd be in a major dilema. Love the Crows, but love Westies too.

I guess I'll just have to keep hating Port and Collingwood.

I remember the surveys that asked these questions and 1 was specifically : Would you switch your allegiance to a combined side or a Port Adelaide side

Like you noddy , and I guess like a lot of true die hard Magpies supporters , I would have waited for a team to represent me.. whether it was a Norwood/Sturt combine or the current set up.. I would still be a Hawthorn supporter if Port were successful in 90

I've been an Adelaide Crows supporter since '91, but I've barracked for Norwood for a lot longer than that.

Who would I support if Norwood (or a composite including Norwood) were elevated to the big league? Tough question. I'd probably support both Adelaide & Norwood - no idea who I'd barrack for when they played each other.

Its interesting that this thread was started by a Port supporter in order to justify their bangwagoner mentality.

There is no way in hell I would switch to support the other team. I would rather stick needles in mmy eyes. I think it also say a lot about the character of those supporters that "switch over". Its no secret that dyertribe was as strong a Port Adelaide Magpies supporter as there was. He started following the crows since day one and when Port came into the picture, he stuck with the crows. Unlike majority of Port supporters who switched over in a second. That my friends is a definition of bandwagoner.

Given that my loyalty to Norwood pre-dates my loyalties to the Crows, I wouldn't consider myself a bandwagoner.

Now if it were any team OTHER than Norwood, there's no way on earth I would consider changing allegiances.

Its not the same norwood... it would be a new team slightly related to the Redlegs, in the same way the Power arent the Port Magpies.
