First of all, apologies for taking a more rational view of this whole Campbell Brown traded saga, but I have to ask the question...what if?

- The trade never happens?

- Despite Brown being traded, our backline manages to hold strong without him. Our backline consisting of Gilham, Gibson, Guerra, Ladson, Birchall, Schoenmakers, Ellis, Whitecross, and Croad (maybe) turns out to be enough?

- Burgoyne turns out to be a star. Free of the weekly tag, and with hard nuts like Hodge, Mitchell, Sewell and Lewis getting the ball out to him he takes his game to a whole new level. Burgoyne, in essence, turns out to be the game breaker in the midfield we need.

- Hodge and Mitchell are freed up to play more footy through the midfield. Lets not forget we all whinged when Hodge played the QB role for the first half of the season when we needed him in the midfield. And Mitch spent some time their too. Burgoyne can play across half back too, and would give us more flexibility through the middle of the ground.

- The current group of leaders we have are in fact "the heart and soul of the club". The playing group does end up missing Browny, but ultimately we have a core group of leaders that inspire in their own way. Hodge, Mitchell, Sewell, Roughead, and Bateman all provide the inspiration the club needs to push through this harsh piece of modern football trading.

- Ultimately, Burgoyne's skill and class is the difference between us winning or not winning another premiership with this group.

So if all this happens, will those same people that are "burning their memberships" and calling the club "pathetic", "a disgrace", and "no longer a family club" - will they turn around in 2011 and renew their memberships because things actually are OK?

Now is not the time to lose faith in the club. I love Browny as much as the next Hawthorn supporter, but this is football...it happens. It's all well and good to say you stuck around during the hard years when Hawthorn struggled to perform and that therefore makes you "a true Hawthorn supporter". If you jump off now though, you're just as bad as those jumped off in the early 2000's.

Clarkson and co have already taken us to one premiership, lets have some faith in them to do it again.

Here, here...couldn't have said it better myself.

What most fail to realise is that we will have some serious salary cap pressures next year with the signing of Franklin, Roughhead etc.

Maybe with the trading of Brown, it will allow us that little extra room in our cap to negotiate better deals for the above mentioned.

Everyone is saying trade Tuck, Moss etc but this will not really provide us with much room now in the cap going forward.

Let us trust the people who got us to a Premiership last year!

brown is the hawthorn football club

Nonsense.

Brown is a good and popular player at the Hawthorn football club.

The HFC is bigger than any individual, even Dermie, Dunstall, the Kennedy's, Dipper, Hodgey, Croady, etc, certainly bigger than Campbell Brown.

I love Browny too, but let's not get silly about this.

bloody hell man, hawthorn pays the least in the AFL. Burgouyne also is asking for more then what Brown is paid.

1+1 = 1?

Without a doubt the most stupid thing I have ever read from a Hawk supporter.

There is no person more Hawthorn than the great John Kennedy snr and do u know the first thing he would say about your statement.

No one absolutely no one is BIGGER than the club.

If the trade does happen I feel it will have to create some type of roadblock or disruption to the playing group, culture, game plan, supporters etc. The 'actual' circumstances on how it eventually all goes down will determine the + or - imapct and how long it effects the entire club and its supporters. I believe it 'may' have a negative impact (particularly early in the season) on a flag attempt for 2010. Once momentum starts falling our way the pain of the trade will start to dissolve.

My 4 year old sons name is Campbell Brown and I'm not sure what we will do with the picture of the two of them on his wall now, especially if he isnt in the brown and gold next year. Browny went out of his way last year to catch up with my son and I and I will always thank him for that. Like many have said Campbell Brown is part of the fabric that is Hawthorn.

Not so sure, pick 9s salary + Browns = or < Burgs salary. Also Brown would continue and maybe end up on veterans list in the long run.

Personally dont want the trade to go ahead.
Your club is worse off with Brown in the team than with Burgoyne.
I would prefer they kept the slapper, whilst he is tough & courageous he is also an altogether slow average footballer with questioanble skills. His discipline is very iffy, he is prone to brain fades & is a bit of a public embarrasment.

But if you trade him, hey that would really suck cause Burgs is silk & could be the man you guys need to sure up your next premiership challange.

Did you guys forget that Burgs plays awesome footy across HB ?

Well said Rev08! It's all a big "what if?", but we all need to remember that the club is bigger than any individual. What ever trades happen, they're been done by a group of committed & intelligent people with the best interests of the future of the HFC at heart.

If the trade does happen I feel it will have to create some type of roadblock or disruption to the playing group, culture, game plan, supporters etc.
The one certainty we should all be confident of during this week of uncertainty is that all of these issues will be weighed up and taken into consideration. The positives will always outweigh the negatives for those with access to all the information... ie the decision makers.

Keep the faith fellow Hawks

Great News ! Kennett has proclaimed that Brown will be staying a Hawk.

Chances are you wont be able to snare the Burgs now cause you aint gonna part with Lewis, Birchell or Brown.

What if Burgoyne turns out to be a flop, has knee issues, and we never see the best of him?
What if he plays ok, but is seen as a very lazy footballer.
What if Browns mates at the club decide, when contract renewells come up, that there wasn't a lot loyalty shown to Brown and the whole "Keeping the premiership list together" that they feel the same way when GC offer them a fat contract.

Of course Brown isn't the heart and soul of the club, and no player is bigger than the club, But, players, particularly passionate ones like Brown, are a very important part of the clubs make-up and current identity.

What if people just calm down?

What if people stop believing every bit of crap the media (and this forum) conjures up?

What if we started showing a little more confidence in our club's ability to deal in trade week?

What if we just wait and see what deals are made, and then discuss their merits?
