yet if you watch the games all teams at lest do some sort of zone.

That is true some sides will zone if they can't make it to the contest and most teams play man on man and move the ball quick and direct into the forward line to give their forwards best chance one on one something Collingwood haven't done for years ..

The zone, as Collingwood have played it, has been like eating soup with a fork, the opposition has flowed unhindered around them.

My son played his first under 9 footy match on Sunday.

The boys & girls in his team all set up in three zones on the field. Each player had to guard their zone/area.

They were getting pumped up until half time and my boy couldn't get into the play at all

After watching the Saints game (in turn nursing a really bad hangover) and this first half I pulled my son aside after the coach's
half time address and told him to just stick on one player.

You wouldn't believe it but my son got into the play and he actually enjoyed his first game and they ONLY copped two goals in the second half.
Not that they keep scores but the kids always do!

When and why did footy become so complicated??

I am not asking us to go back to the old kick to kick with the ruckman dropping back football but give us something Bucks.
It is obvious to me anyway our players don't have the (your) skill to do what the Hawks/Doggies/Gold Coast e.t.c are doing at the minute.

It's not about skill, it's about experience and we're trying a much more fluid zone than the others. If we can get it to work it may be a masterpiece, but it doesn't look likely at this stage. Our blokes charge out of the zone to attack the ball carrier. If everyone else in the zone can adjust their position instantly to cover the chargers absence it may work. If they don't adjust immediately we're stuffed.

zoning by the best teams have there backman man there opponents and the extra players not manning any one, are suppose
to guard the dangerous space hence why teams can run it out with numbers when they get the ball. but if you are not in the right spots it all breaks down very quickly hence the sling shots
