I watched a few Saints games this year, and TBH, all I saw Wright do was get a few cheapies across half back. Not sure why he had Bruce McAvaney foaming at the gash on commentary, or why people think he's looks like "a gun".

Wright looks like a gun because he moves well, runs and carries the ball and uses it well.

Your whole team is full of players that get cheapies across half back: Shaw, toovey, harry'o, seedsman, maxwell, reid

All 6 are suspect when they play on an opponent directly

To be fair, half the league does that these days.

He had one good game, which was his first, against the bottom side, his only game where he got more than 13 disposals. The rest of the time he just looked like an average first year player. I'm not saying he's rubbish, but see how he develops before labelling him "a gun", because he realistically hasn't shown enough yet to just assume he's going to be elite.

I'd ask you to show me where I claimed anything otherwise, but we're not talking about Collingwood though, are we?

If i remember correctly, he got injured, and never really got going after that.

But he looks like a gun, even if he only looked good for a while. Any teams that have young players show glimpes are going to call them future guns.

Re Bold: you got me there, but why are you criticising a player for picking up cheap kicks, when all those 6 players i mentioned do it, and some of them are considered guns?

Because for the most part they have more strings to their bow and generally do a fair bit more than just pick up cheap kicks.

you cannot possibly say shaw, harry o, and seedsman do anything else but pick up cheap uncontested possesions. No point arguing how they perform against a direct opponent, because they dont perform

Harry O and Seedsman probably fall into that category (although Seedsman also does have an accurate, penetrating kick that is a weapon too), but you really musn't have seen Shaw play much if you think his whole game consists of gathering cheap kicks.

I watch most collingwood games. He rarely wins a tough ball, and is a bad one on one player. He is definitely a much better player than the other two, but his game is based on cheapies in order to run and carry

I've watched Shaw since he debuted (have probably seen every game he's played for Collingwood, in fact), and I've lost count over the years of the number of times he's put his body on the line, taken marks going back with the flight, etc.

Sure, he's is good at the run and carry stuff, but he's much more than that.

I agree. But he is still a loose man cheapie, but with hardness and skills.

Wright looked like a ripper before Eddie Betts kindly broke his jaw with a cheapie and before he injured his back on his return (which he came back from a couple of weeks later, but then landed very hard on it again, got subbed off a few mins later and spent the rest of the year in the VFL, most likely to protect it).

He made a more impressive start to his career for us than anyone who had just come out of the U18's in maybe as long as 10 years and was pretty much a lock for our team almost immediately. Played that terrific first game (where he was stiff to not get the Rising Star nom) and within a few weeks was playing key lockdown jobs for us on the likes of Betts (the reason he didn't get as much of it in latter games as in that first game) and really showed a heap with his ability to take the game on across HB with his speed and to burst through the packs. Is also extremely strong overhead and is excellent 1-on-1.

I also agree with the Judd comparison someone made earlier. Not saying he was as good as Judd was when he first started or that he'll have anywhere near as good a career, but in his very first game for us in the NAB Cup the first guy he reminded me of with the way he moved through the pack and with his athletic build (and even the shaved head), was Judd. To me he just moves like him and has that serious burst of acceleration that Judd had in his early years. I just love the way he charges through a pack and hope his back doesn't end up being a long term issue, as I'd love to see if he transitions into the midfield eventually.

...Sorry my mistake - Pelchen has taken over from Hutchison in the Football department after the restructure...the position was abolished(?!!).
But are Pelchen and Watters in agreement on player recruitment? There seems to be friction at present.

I sincerely hope that the Saints can get through this crisis period. I would hate to see them revert to their parlous state of the late '70s early '80s.

...Got a CEO yet?
...Got a Football Ops Manager yet?
...made a profit yet?
...paying full salary cap to your players yet?
...got a new sponsor yet?
...increased your membership yet?
etc etc etc.

Tough times for the Saints...good luck!

...Got a playing list who likes your coach yet?
...Stopped losing your best players yet?
...Gotten over sacking one of the best coaches ever yet?
...Facing the fact you are rebuilding yet?
...Facing the fact you won't win a Flag under Buckley yet?
...Realised your CEO is a racist pig yet?
...GAGF yet?

Oh and PS yes. We do have a CEO and Football OP Manager is Pelican for now. That role has been moved on at 16 out of 18 Clubs. Facts dickwad

If you say so.

Personally I'd land that result upon James Hirds cheating ways that afforded Carlton the opportunity to play a finals rookie opponent.
And your finals opponent had a vast amount of previous finals experience and was September hardened.

On no, wait, It was Port Power. In Melbourne. And you still lost.

& beat apparently, I still haven't seen it.

Fair enough on the rookie call though, Port had 5 players remaining from their last finals tilt whilst Richmond only had 4 players with finals experience.
