Now, I know the usual belly ticklers will squeal "they don't play the same position" but it isn't about that, it is about us being serious as a club.

I have little doubt we want to reward Tex, he has been a great club servant but is it the clubs responsibility to get him there?

Are we focused on winning flags or are we more interested in milestones for long term players because we aren't winning a flag this year and we won't next year unless we get our priorities right.

If Tex only gets to 290 odd, so be it and we should be playing Draper as much as we can, not putting games into god damned fringe players and playing older players more than we have to. Last year we said Tex would be rested through the year...but it seems to be rested enough to get him to a milestone.

If we want to win flags, we need to make unpopular decisions and if that means he doesn't get to 300 and we start prioritising a gun midfielder instead of "Murphy" or "Taylor" or "Pedlar" then we are moving in the right direction.

WTF.

Draper to 50 matters.
Walker to 300 is an added bonus.

To even put this in the same sentence (I havent even read your OP) is stupidity.

games/minutes into Draper is more important than games into just about anyone else in the list (Curtin might be the 1 exception)

In 2041 we’ll be nursing Draper to 300 games, which we wouldn’t need to do if he played more games in his first season

I love the Texan, he's up there with Jarman and McLeod in nearly all crow fans favourites of all time

But we can't just gift him games if he's not performing. Even if it's to get him to 300

He's been playing behind hoping for an error from a defender much more this year. When it works yeah it's great, but it seems to be working less and less

Geelong did this shit with Hawkins and it cost them too.

No man is bigger than the club and as much as I love Walker, winning games, playing finals, building a new premiership window laps the need to get Walkers milestone.

We'd choose Tex getting 300 over a flag, we're not a genuine football club, we're a HR geared corporation. Balme may change that, but it doesn't happen within a single season.

It’s not even about one or the other. The question we should ask is is Tex helping us win.

Unfortunately the answer is no, opposition teams are clearly having their third tall run off him constantly, and unless he can out body opponents in a one on one he isn’t marking the ball.

The frustrating bit is that if we sent him on a refresh and mini preseason and then managed him properly, he would almost certainly be a weapon in September. But instead he’ll limp there and continue to be a key aspect of opposition rebound. All because we favour optics over performance.

Its not even a question really.

Draper needs to play. Yes he had a limited pre season and will probably run out of legs towards the end of the year, but weve gotta have a bit more faith.

Its either that or actually come out and tell us why we are doing what we sre doing. Do we think he'll burn out ??

The hard conversation with Tex needs to be had during the bye. It wont, but it absolutely should happen

More important than both at this time is getting some AFL games into Charlie Edwards, well into his 2nd season, SANFL form has been excellent all year but still no AFL debut.
Pick #17 in his draft.
It's not like he wasn't rated and was a pick in the 40's or 50's

He should be playing midfield in the sanfl as well

I was pretty drunk last night but it is a question about the focus and priorities of our club. Do we try to reward one of our players for service or are we more ruthless and focused on silverware.

You are right that the conversation needs to be had with Tex, probably should have been before we signed off on this years contract...but maybe the conversation needs to be had with Nicks as well

100% he should be, in reality when we were looking at giving Laird a week off, we should have set it up that Milera takle the next one and give Edwards two weeks full games and then maybe move him to sub or if he is doing well in the step up, a few more games.

Getting Draper to 50 games as soon as possible was the most important thing that we could have done to assist any premiership window coming along.

So of course we didn't put any effort into doing it, and instead have selected Smith and Murphy in priority.

And how many of the 9 games he has played have been full ones ?? 2 I think

At that rate he'll need 100 games.

We will make the top 8 with Tex but not top 4. If he wasn't so close to 300 he wouldn't be playing these games.

Everyone will cash in against Richmond. That will be enough to keep Tex going a few more weeks.
