the saying 'Cant soar like an Eagle if you hang around Turkeys' is a saying that exists for a reason.

The idea of reserves is to show enough that you can take the next step and develop further at AFL level. Im not sure how anyone could argue that Draper, Dowling, Edwards have anything more to learn at Sanfl level.
Our idea of the reserves changes depending on who is performing there.

Dowling/Edwards perform well? SANFL form means nothing. They're not ready for AFL. AFL is a different beast and it's not as simple as the player in best form gets picked.
Smith/Murphy perform well? Can't ignore SANFL form. Experience is everything. They're playing the best footy and deserve to be rewarded.

Niche reference perhaps but our SANFL side is like Jareth's oubliette from Labyrinth. "It's a place to put people to forget about them."

If we drop/manage/rest Tex throughout the remainder of the season and subsequently misses the milestone, he's almost guaranteed to get another contract to get to the 300th next year.

Considering it doesn't appear to be an option that Tex doesn't hit the 300 (barring unexpected injury), would we sacrifice a 2026 contract to crawl him there this year?

It's stupid that I even have to suggest that but this is the situation we're in

The frustrating bit is that if we sent him on a refresh and mini preseason and then managed him properly, he would almost certainly be a weapon in September. But instead he’ll limp there and continue to be a key aspect of opposition rebound. All because we favour optics over performance.
You don't think Darren Burgess has a plan?

Why is it an either or question? If fit, why can't both play? Draper doesn't come in for Tex.
Because we were having this very discussion about Tex when he was Draper's age with Craig constantly dropping him.

Had that not happened, he'd already be there.

It's a decades-long, multiple coaching group argument that goes to the very core of this football club and clearly this thread isn't about "Why aren't we playing Sid Draper at the expense of Tex"
